Are you tired of the constant adjustments with illness

Have you noticed that life is constantly changing for you? Nothing remains the same for very long, and the only thing that is constant....is continual change!! Do you fight against change, or do you go with the flow? The answer to that question is so important to us all!

What does have our collective illnesses have in common?Sometimes we can ACCEPT change, or eventually we are forced to accept what we cannot change.

Because generally I haven't strength, or the ability, to try to change what I know I cannot do. It's that simple!

So how does this effect us all? There are changes in life that we CAN change, and others which we feel we cannot change, things which are beyond us to change....for many different reasons, so, it sort of brings us to the serenity prayer of AA.

God, grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

The courage to change the things I can;

And the wisdom to know the difference.

This is only a small part of the the prayer.

Where are you, with regards to this prayer? Are you accepting new changes in your health/life....(at least trying to accept them) or are you managing to stay just within the line of acceptance or denial.

    I live trusting that God is in control, holding on to His promise to not give me more than I can handle, in humble thanksgiving for all He has given to me. My body is just the shell. It is what is inside that counts.

    I think that acceptance is a crucial part of managing this condition. If one lives in denial then the emotional toll will be felt. Not recognising the many changing symptoms of FM and not learning to adapt to each one, is only settling ourselves up for discouragement and a sense of hopelessness. Some days it's my feet that are aching and sensitive, another day it will be my right arm, another day I will feel the chronic fatigue, another day my hands will be painful and itchy, another will be migraine day, or I can wake up with General all over pain. Accepting each day for what it brings and adapting is the key for me. I still have my housework to do and errands to run and I do voluntary work outside the home. I also attend and participate in meetings twice a week. I am in my 60s and so I do what I can on a given day. I too have a strong faith in a creator and I rely on him for strength and pour out my heart often in prayer. Change is inevitable in our lives. Acceptance for me is the key.
