Arm aches!

I have pain in both my arms and cant get them "up my back" so getting dressed is painful, sleeping at night not good.  It is not frozen shoulder so gp says, I have had two cortisone injections, scan, xray and physio  and its actually worse now than a year ago, initially it was only in one arm its now in both!!! I have never like taking pills, and having taken lots that dont do any good, im now taking nothing.  Any tips?

Hi ,firstly I'm sorry you are suffering from this ,I think you need to get a second opinion as it sounds like FS.

i have had FS in one shoulder for 9 months now ,I paid to go private as my GP would not pay for it and it was confirmed.

i now have pain in my other shoulder but can still move it so I know it isn't frozen,it's probably Tendonitis due to over compensating.

The point I'm trying to make is if you can't put them up your back it is either FS or Rotator Cuff but you would need an Ultrasound or MRI to diagnose it ,I hope this helps .

Hi ,my GP while not wanting to pay for scans did give me a barrow full of painkillers ,Codeine Phosphate, paracetamol, Napraxon and Amilltriptoline, in the first stage you cannot cope without painkillers,

The Consultant said to keep trying to continue and work through the pain ,I have to a certain level .

There is no quick fix but it will get better !

It started last December and I am improving !

i am  a fit 61 and I guess it will take me longer to recover ,the Consultant told me 2 years for a full recovery.

The ironic thing is I went to the gym and swam a lot and enjoyed it but they said I had probably overdone it and that is what caused it.

However my Daughter in laws brother is a race Jockey 30 years old and he has the same problem ,he has had Injections manipulation Ultrasound Therepy  and spent a fortune with little improvement .it seems the answer is manage the pain while keep going until it runs it's course.

I wish there was something else I could say other than keep strong it gets you down !!and then slowly you will find you can do movements without pain .

The last thing you want to do is sit and wait for a rotator cuff injury or frozen shoulder to just go away.  The anti-inflammatory's alone will destroy your stomach lining.  Not to mention you will be depressed.  Drugs do not do much for this type of condition.  You want to keep the range of motion going, so stretch with in your limits.  And find yourself a good massage Therapist and or Acupuncturist?  If you are diligent with your treatment you should have full ROM back within 6 months.  I am both and have treated a lot of shoulder pathologies.  FYI the treatment can be painful, but better than surgery, and better than living with this for 2 years to see if it goes away.

Hi while I agree with you on certain things,. I am 9 months into it and I am mostly pain free have not lost any time off work at all .

The Consultant I saw told me to try and keep going which I did ,I had to change my car from a manual to an Auto as I couldn't change gear .

i only took painkillers when I was desperate as I was aware of the side effects on my stomach.

i asked about MUA and it doesn't always work and you are back to square one.

i keep exercising and I am managing but everyone is different  I see a little progress often .

i went to see if acupuncture would be helpful and she said not .

Rotator cuff does need surgery  but FS they say it's better to let it repair .i do wish things were easier with this condition ,they say it's mostly women over 60 that get it so bad.

      Katie
