Arthritis in 2nd hip?

Posted , 9 users are following.

I had hip replacement 2 years & 3 months ago. After surgery the dr said my other hip had no arthritis in it. But, for a few months now, I have started getting the symptoms that my 1st hip had. Is it possible for arthritis to spread or develop?

Lots of things can cause arthritis to develop. I have had OA in my right hip, both shoulders, some knuckles, and my big toe!

Comment for the moderators - why is a link to a page on the arthritis.org website considered unsuitable for inclusion in the forums? It seemed quite appropriate for the current discussion. Anyway, Jackie, if you read this, let me know and I will send you the forbidden link.

From. my own experience the symptoms can certainly develop quickly. I had my R hip replaced 9 yrs ago and have been told the left looked ok at my last xray 3 yrs ago .I developed left hip symptoms of horrendous pain and leg feeling like it was giving out around March this year.Saw surgeon in July and he said the arthritis was such that i needed a replacement. The left hip was replaced in September. so it all happened very quickly.Go and get yourself referred and checked out . I am still getting over the unexpectedness of it all

Yes for sure. I have it in knees, hips and feet. Had LTHR Sept 18 ,2019. Have to keep active to keep right hip in check and a bit of tumeric helps too. But, haven't had ibuprophen since sept 10th. I use Icy Hot on feet twice a day. That sure helps too. Damp days are a killer in WNY.

Hi Jackie, I had my right replaced Sept 2018, consultant said at the time that left was deteriorating but not too bad. Saw my GP two weeks ago with left pain, he had the xrays from the time of my surgery, straight referral to see the consultant next Monday, never even bothered to send me for a more recent xray. Hopefully I will be sorted soon.

    Best Wishes

    Helen

They reckon 49 out of 50 will get some form of arthritis during their lives.
