arthritis in knees

hi does anyone else have arthritis in the knees. I had a car crash about 6 years ago. the car imploded onto both knees and since having an op twice on one knee and needing one on the other I'm in.pain most days. I've taken nap rouen which did nothing so take 2 paracetamol and 2 ibrupofen together this also doesn't work well. I've tried cocodamel and codeine non of which work. I carry heavy loads up and down two flights of steps and by then end of doing this over 20 times a night I have to crawl up my own stairs as my knees will not work. I'm really at an all time low as can't walk very well and often limp due to pain. what can I take

Caroline this may be slightly off topic but can your employer help you by changing your work place/job maybe with a cover letter

unfortunately no as it's a small shop. I've thought about going to gp as finding it so hard to do things at the mo. if I take it easy on days off I'm fine swelling on knees goes down. in work and after a day I'm back to square one

Hello Caroline.Yes I have it in my right  knee after being smashed off  my road racing bike by a car and landing on my right knee over twenty years ago.I would collaspe on it many time for years until they diagnosed the problem.Eventually operated on and reconstructed I have developed arthritis in it,as well as my right shoulder through horse accident.ball socket taken out there. So I know your pain sad Well.I got a bus pass for my knee so that helps.I take 2 cod liver oils a day,but the thing that seems to have helped the most is gingyo biloba.I used to have to put a knee warmer on my knee in winter.I couldn't walk without it.Last year I didn't need too.I really do think you have to change your job though before your knees wont let you even start the day carrying heavy loads up stairs.I would suggest you get as quick a referrel from your GP back to the surgeon who operated on your knee for an imformed opinion.Hope it works out for you Caroline!! Positive vibes sent your way.

Hi caroline, yes i suffer with my left knee and various other joints as i have PsA.

Unfortunately you have to listen to your body and its telling you not to do all this up and down the stairs!!!! Until you stop this, the pain will not go away.

You have to find different way of doing your job or get a another one, if you don't you will not be able to work let alone go up and down the stairs.

Sorry to be so harsh but you have to rest those knees x

I too live in a very rural community so do understand. In the evenings use a wheat bag its brilliant the warmth seems to be very healing. I inject Mthx 20gms weekly and inject Simponi (goliumbah) monthly its a strong concoction but its working for me at the momment. You would need to speak to your Rheumy about these drugs.
