Article on Manuka honey

To-day I read in a Swedish paper that Dr Sarah Maddocks, Cardiff has published an article about Manuka honey that shows that this honey can heal wounds that are otherwise hard to heal. As I have read several posts some months ago on this forum about the positive effects of Manuka honey also for persons with pmr, I wanted to share this article. I googled Manuka honey Sarah Maddocks and got a number of sites to read.

PS I also wonder why the change to this type of layout. >I find it harder to find out where the latest posts are

    Hello Ragnar

So good to hear from you again.

Yes, Manuka honey dressings are now being used by our National Health Service to treat wounds and, as you probably read, it also helps to ward off some of the hospital acquired infections.

I have been having a teaspoonful every morning for years - it's supposed to be good for boosting our immune systems, so especially beneficial whilst taking steroids, but it also has many other health benefits.

I've continued to follow a painfully slow version of your reduction regime below 5mgs of Pred, at present on 0.5mg one day and zero for two days. PMR-wise having a little stiffness in my legs for the last few days but hopefully GCA is still under control. Once this freezing weather is over, I hope to catch up with MrsK at the end of the tunnel on zero Pred!

Do hope you continue to be both pain-free and Pred-free.

Thanks for your wellness wishes. I feel fine but I would prefer a milder climate.

If you are so close to getting off pred, it shouldn´t matter if you prolonged the tapering and for instance took 0.5 mg one day and 0 three or four days and repeat this a couple of times.

Mrs K and I will be waiting anyway at the end of the tunnel

Ragnar - thank you. See you both at the end of the tunnel, although I might just hibernate in there a bit longer during this freezing spell!!!

I enjoy it so much that I've often fancied another spoonful of Manuka in the evening but I've resisted it so far!

I do sympathise if you suffer from mouth ulcers - I used to have loads (my father used to call them gumboils!) but I seemed to grow out of them at some stage. The only thing that seems to bring them out now is too much acid fruit or wine but I have very little wine now since the kidney problem diagnosis. So glad you've found another benefit from the Manuka - I'm sure the live yoghurt helps as well.

    Hi Ragnar

Would be nice if you dropped in sometime on the other forum - link can be found on North East Website. It is very different it really operates as a 'virtual support group'.

We still, of course, continue to visit this site, we would never ever not come here.

I have now been one month on zero and, yes it is not easy, but just wait till the end of 2012.

    Often think about you.
