Artificial tears following cataract surgery

Posted , 3 users are following.

On a related note, does anyone know if there is a specific number of days after cataract surgery when it's safe to use artificial tears?

Any finally, is there any guidance on how long to separate the administration of various drops and artificial tears?

Many thanks.

You can use them right away but since you are probably on a lot of other drops (that all have preservatives) I would recommend using preservative-free drops. Systain Complete drop are the best in my book. And they come in a preservative-free version. The reason to go preservative-free is that all your other drops have preservatives and too much of those preservatives can be hard on the ocular surface. If you were ONLY using over the counter drops the regular ones would be fine (and cheaper of course)

I was told to allow 5 minutes between the time the two different drops are taken. Also I understand dry eye drops are fine. Again, I would allow some time between the prescription drops and the dry eye drops.
