Artificial Urinary Sphincter Surgery

Posted , 3 users are following.

32 year old male with spinal cord injury that lead to incontinence. I'm currently on the schedule for an AUS surgery. Ive done research on the surgery and device just have a few questions that I havent been able to fully acertain.

  1. Minimum time out of work? I work an office job. Sit down 99% of the time. I was thinking 3-4 days off from surgery.

  2. How noticable is the pump visually from outside of the scotum.

  3. Can you deactivate it to have sex so an ejaculation occurs?

Thanks in advance

    Sportfreak63,

You should ask your Dr. these questions. For me, I had a Foley catheter for about a week. I then had to be in Depends for about 5-6 more weeks to allow full healing of the cuff of the AUS. That's most critical part of the surgery.

The pump is at most, slightly visible if you're nude and someone takes the time to look closely. If you were in a public shower, for example, I seriously doubt that anyone would ever notice. (And I'd wonder why they were so interested in that part of the anatomy.)

If you were to deactivate the AUS for sex, the ejaculation would also include urine. I've never tried it. FYI, mine was implanted over 4 years ago.
