Hello, I’m 22 years old and recently found out I have been diagnosed with Colitis/Crohns they still don’t know which one as I have symptoms for both! They gave me Asacol to take twice a day before this I lost some weight but I’m scared I’m just eating so much more and worried I’m going to put on lots of weight. Is anyone else taking Asacol that always feels hungry? Other than that I love it and I have so much more energy

Hi, I am glad that you have found a medication that is making you feel better. As I have told fellow suffers many times before I have suffered from crohns for 53 yrs now, and during that time have not been prescribed any of these new medications. Is this medication that you are on a new one only I don't think I have heard it mentioned before. Are you from the UK or from abroad. I belong to my local "crohns & colitis group" and like your self there are one or two members that have both crohns and colitis. Does this mean that the consultants are not sure which one they are suffering from or do they in actual fact have both. I am at the moment suffering from a flare up and are due to have my first colonoscopy. whether they will prescribe one of these medications this time I am not sure but I know that some have rather bad side effects and I can do without that so it would be nice to hear from others their experience with these various medication's . Hope you continue to benefit from this treatment.

I was diagnosed as having undetermined colitis and was treated with this diagnosis for a couple of years or so. However, when I was admitted to hospital whilst having a flair, the diagnosis became more defined as Crohn's. I understand that the umbrella term 'colitis' could mean you have either ulcerative colitis or Crohn's. I am assuming the treatment for both is similar, as are the symptoms. My Crohn's diagnosis was made when they saw that the disease was in my small bowel as well as the large bowel. I think there were also other clinical signs that pointed towards Crohn's rather than Ulcerative Colitis. Having said that, my treatment did change at this point, but probably because the doctor decided that the ASACOL I had been taking had obviously not worked!
