Basically my boyfriend is worried about a house he was working at yesterday, he is a carpet fitter but he was dealing with wooden floors yesterday and he noticed that underneath the wooden floors was obviously plaster boards but the colour of it was white, he was wondering what is the colour of old plaster board as the house he was working in is around the age of 1950-1970's? Could these plaster boards have asbestos in as the builders who were working in there before and broken the plaster board so he is now worried that all the insulation is in the air and could breathe it in and the colour of the plaster boards were grey?

He has got asthma but not awful asthma and he does have weeks where his breathing can be a bit wheezy and coughing a fair bit! But he is constantly worrying about it, do you know if the grey paper plaster board could have asbestos in or not? Thank you

I'm not sure to be honest but I can give you some information so your boyfriend can better understand his medical issue and have piece of mind & make sure its nothing serious. So I would suggest having a Pulmonary Function Test or a Spidometry just to see its not a big issue and it is indeed a bit asthma sometimes anxiety can make the problems worse. Hope he gets better.

    Hi

The only sure way is to have the material tested.

If it is suspected as being Asbestos, work should have stopped immediately and the findings reported.

A house of that aged should have had a Asbestos survey done before work commenced.

lts still annoying that companies are still putting employees at risk to save money.

AIB Asbestos Insulation Board are whitish grey in appearance and show signs of fibres when broken.

on a good note your bf is unlikely to have inhaled sufficient fibres to cause harm,

he should either refuse to continue until the material as been tested or at very least wear a mask up to P3.

As a carpet fitter he should have been wearing a mask, as all fibres can cause lung scarring.

    PS

proir to retirement i was a Asbestos Remover Supervisor.for 15 years.
