Ashamed of anxiety

Does anyone else feel ashamed by their anxiety disorder? I know I do.I've never properly admitted it to anyone.Some people seem a bit awkward around mental health issues.I'm a big bloke & feel so pathetic.

    Never ever should you be ashamed of something that you have not done.

    Mental health issues are done to us without our permission, and are very serious because they can hijack the real 'us' before we realise it.

    If people you meet cannot handle the truth that you are struggling with every fibre of your body to climb out of this black hole, then in my opinion they are not worthy of even speaking to.

    It doesn't matter how big or small you are these illnesses are so insidious and vicious that they can bring us to our knees.

    I congratulate you for having the courage to speak so openly about the way that you feel.

    I know what you mean. I am a 'big bloke' too. Not being able to deal with the anxiety makes me feel weak and pathetic also. It saps your energy and confidence after a while BUT actually we are some of the most courageous people I know. To continually face every day our fears and yet carry on as best we can, however imperfectly, is the mark of true strength. The experience of endless burning anxiety with seemingly no relief is an accurate portrayal of hell. We can become reduced to the bone. We are not understood by others who have not experienced the same as us. And yet out of all this pain and distress I believe we can develope a greater compassion both to ourselves and to others and by daily realising our acute limitations, painful though it is, we can begin to lose the grandiose fantasies we have developed about ourselves and learn to live more, and appreciate more, our real life in the present moment. We are much stronger than we think we are.

    Dear viper, do not ever feel pathetic or any derogatory emotion towards yourself...ever....almost, actually all very probably people have suffered with acute anxiety at some point of their lies....hold your head up high, everyone sympathizes without question...

    I have three lovely adult sons who suffer from severe mental health problems...we have been int the mental health system for over..20 yrs...I have been sectioned four times myself !! For alcoholism, depression and acute, crippling anxiety...

    So please, do not worry in any way abouts others actions..they are kind and lovely 99% of the time....big hugs to you...DEIRDRE xx

    I feel embarrassed all the time. I penpal, and some of my overseas pals have talked about wanting to visit me. How do I tell them that I am brimming with mental health issues including being too darn terrified to leave my house. I really do. But I can tell you one thing my friend. Pathetic, you ain't! You are very brave for sharing this.

    need i say more i totally agree with these ladies... we didnt ask for this! it came willing.... we are all blessed with our families that support us regardless of our health issues so to speak..... so never be ahamed we are all in this togetherĀ lollol

    We should all be strong enough now at this point to not be ashamed of our feelings. We need to look after number one. Im useless with crowds and meetings etc but I'm really confident in saying "excuse me...I feel a bit wobbly" I'm just going to be alone for a moment. My well being is far more important to deal with. Make sense?
