Since early March I have been breathless on exertion and I mean walking upstairs walking around a shop etc etc.i take a seratide inhaler twice a day and ventolin as needed .....I had a week of prednisalone that did nothing and have tried montelukast but came off as the side effects were dreadful...I have been referred to see a consultant but the appointment isn't till September....I used to walk a lot and now I hardly walk at all...I'm 67 but was very fit previous to this...so can any one help please I'm at my wits end..

Hi Sally sorry you're having a rough time of it. I'm pretty much the same really struggle with the pollen and just before and during a period ( stupid menopause) 3 lots of pred in 5 weeks been on montelukast for a few weeks and all good no side effects,  was on seretide but my fab asthma nurse swapped me to fostair and it was working a treat until the side effects kicked in. When to see my gp today although a locum and she put me back on seretide until I see my asthma nurse next week as she knows me better and has also put me on  loratadine. So maybe a trip to see your asthma nurse might help you xx

sounds exactly like me at the moment, with my asthma nurse's permission due to being on symbicort i up my dose in the morning and evenings which i find helps. the pollen and suffering with hayfever is the worst.

just like lyngal i too get a very tight chest and funnily enough exactly the same symptoms before and during my period! isnt it great fun to have asthma and other allergies.

    hope you feel better soon
