Asthma getting bad around cat but not allergic.

I recently took in a cat and since doing so my asthma symptoms have gotten worse. They're not terrible, but my chest is often tight and I'm taking my inhaler far more regularly than before the cat came.

Before getting the cat I had an allergy test to make sure things should be ok and it came out negative for cat allergies. The only thins it came out positive for were house dust, dust mites and some form of grass.

Does anyone know why my asthma might be getting worse even though I don't have an allergy to the cat? I've cleaned my house like crazy and can't believe that the number of dust mites would increase so quickly and have this much of an effect, my asthma was relatively fine before.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi. Put the cat in a cat hotel for a week, see what happens. I have 3 cats (farm) but they cant come indoors or I get short of breath. Good Luck -

Either get rid of, shave 'em, or put them in individual plastic bags..sad

I love cats, but my wife (she hasn't got asthma) and i have had to stop having a cat around. Not only do my eyes start itching, after an hour I start struggling to breathe, and then my skin comes up in little itchy blebs..

Your airways will become inflamed and even if your medication relieves it you will suffer damage.

It's another sad aspect to being an asthmatic.

Hi, I don't know why but animals can trigger asthma attacks. One of my sons is asthmatics and some pets trigger an attack, others don't

I have acute asthma and eosinophilia, your body becomes somehow aclimatised to the cat hair but it certainly has an effect.

We had rabbits which had to go because they caused a v strong reaction, Chaarlie the cat is still around but I have to be careful with him.

you have to put your own health first if he he / she makes you bad.

You're allergic to your cat unfortunately. Same thing happened/ happens to me. Although I have been asthma free for many years now, this would always happen to me. Hope you get it sorted - Good luck
