Astigmatism and Visual Aberrations

Just had to talk about this phenomenon of astigmatism , lens implantation and resultant unwanted visual aberrations.

I have reg eye Doc appoint March 2 at which point I will discuss these large images with her post surgery. I have not called her as I don't consider this an emergency but I do consider it a situation of high annoyance and quite frankly unacceptable outcome.

I have been all over this internet, medical journals, You Tube etc to see this subject being discussed. They talk of Vaseline Eye, Halos, Starbursts, Glare and Arcs. No one to my knowledge has seen what I see and that truly concerns me. Truly bizarre and probably coming from one of the areas of my (L) eye where I had R.L.I. that didn't straighten the cornea well enough. The doctor did mention having laser if I needed it on my way out the door.

This whole process seemed to be way to fast and information given was very fast and way over my head in ophthalmology terms and explanation of the procedure at that time and I am a nurse! I realize these procedures are many and performed daily but I felt like a number. This doctor was referred to me by my reg eye Doc for his precision and wonderful work.

I don't live in the town he operates off of so this was a 4 day ( find drivers) situation.

I wish I had stayed in my own town with our top Eye Specialist but I didn't. I feel sure the doc I was referred to didn't need my business but she made appointment with her assurance.

I imagine I can either ask her to intervene or have her prescribe me a pair of glasses to stop those aberrations from the astigmatism from highly frustrating me. I have appointment with my surgeon in April and explain it to him and see what he offers me. I hope to get released from this very disturbing

situation.

I hope the next time I get on here there will be a plan to correct this phenomenon. In the mean time if any of you know anyone who is experiencing these same symptoms or have any articles of interest I would appreciate reading them.

If there are any of you who are experiencing what I have described or anyone you know who has I would appreciate your replies.

What specific IOL lens model did you have implanted?

      Hello,

I had mono/focal in both eyes. One set for distance in my dominant eye (R)

and one for mild near vision in (L) eye. He never told me the make but when I got my eye drop case at home the cards were in there. Looks like Johnson and Johnson.

He said this would give me the clearest vision for distance. I also read these lenses are less bothersome than the Multi/focal.

Monofocal lenses should give you the clearest distance vision. Astigmatism if not corrected can cause a loss of focus and blurring of the vision, depending how bad it is. Do you know if you have toric lenses that are intended to correct astigmatism? If you do, it is possible they were not inserted at the correct angle. You may want to go to your optometrist and find out what vision is, and if you have significant astigmatism. While it is likely best to correct it with a toric lens, it can be corrected with laser or a surgical incision. Or the other option is to use glasses with astigmatism correction.

hello. what iol did you get? multi? accommodating? multifocal?. what visual aberrations are you getting?? I feel most opthamologist dont explain too much of anything. I'm new to this and all this was a shock to me. I've learned more from ppl experiences than the tiny bit of info from my surgeon. I'm getting my first eye monofocal in about a week. second would be a week later. I considered pan optix but I know I couldnt take the risk of those so common night disturbances that are common to those iol. Eventually I chose toric monofocals. typically the least night time driving disturbances..I'm praying hard that all goes well.

good luck to you. these forums are great! I've learned and asked many questions that even my own dr didnt disclose!

    Hello,

Sorry I thought I typed them in my larger note. The aberrations I am experiencing are

Crescent Moons, Doves, Birds, Hockey Sticks, Boomerangs, Boots ( Like Santa Claus boots and circle above circle)

Those I see when I approach the entrance way to our development. It is so Bizarre . But I am determined to either have lasik or swap the lenses out. Scary thing is seeing them again afterward.

Thanks for reminding me about my aberrations!

This sounds more like Dysphotopsia than Astigmatism.
