At a loss... is this ibs?

Hello all. Iv read quite a few posts on this forum, and on probably every other forum about abdominal pain on the internet. If been to my doctor, and my gynecologist, and the emergency room. I have been having pain in my lower right since I had my appendix removed last year in october. I am EXTREMELY gassy, all the time. (This is new to me, I have never been a gassy person) I have dealt with chronic pain before, however, so handling the pain is something I can somewhat manage. I have chronic migraines that I now manage with medicine. For 4 years or so I did not manage them in this was and had 15-20 days in the month where I had migraines. I go days between bowel movements (occasionally this gets better and I will have bowel movements days in a row, my pain is generally better around this time as well).

My PCP referred my to my gtnocologist because she believed my pain was cyst related, she did not looking it further. My gtnocologist also believed it was cyst related at first and placed my on the bar (Which has been hell). This has NOT helped my pain in the slightest. I went back to my gynocologist who did another ultrasound who then told me I was simply extremely constipated and to take milk of magnesia. I did, I pooped, a lot. (Sorry for the image. This did help for about half a day, and then I went right back to hurting.

Your symptoms sound like IBS.  Appendix removal can trigger it. Were any cysts found?

My obgyn did do an ultra sound and I had two functional cysts (one on each ovary), she placed me on the bar, when I returned though they had went away over the month like they were supposed to. So I don't have cysts currently, although they could have been part of my pain before

I would go back to your doctor and ask about IBS.  Try a food diary to see if you have a food intolerance that could be causing pain.  Does you pain improve after a bowel movement and does your pain move about your stomach?  These are symptoms of IBS.  Stress can also trigger Irritable bowel.

I do get relief for a time after a bowel movement, but my pain does not generally move.

I did go back to my doctor today however and was diagnosed with ibs. I have had a lot of scans throughout this process and he felt no more were needed. He placed me on a medication to help with pain management and regulating my bowel movements and I have a follow up appointment.

Thank you so much for replying to my post

This is very good news and should set your mind at rest.  I went to the doctor eight times and on one occasion one of my doctors wanted to repeat all my tests because they were all negative and they couldn't diagnose me.  The last doctor I saw said this was not necessary because my symptoms hadn't changed in three months.  I was diagnosed with IBS.

I take Buscopan and Nurofen when stress brings on a flare up and it helps.  Don't worry if you find the first medications don't work; sometimes you have to try several.  I was given Mebeverine before my diagnosis and it made me much worse so I stopped taking it.

Have you ever taken linzess? He told me it would help work to regulate me, but it's worst symptom was that it overworked in some people and caused severe diarrhea.

I'm not to worried about the medication provess, if went through this before with my migraines. And if changed my diet before with them before. I feel like I lindo have a leg up because most of what I need to do for ibs if had to do before. I avoid a lot of potential triggers already thankfully, or I don't know how had I would be

I haven't tried linzess.  I took Movicol which can take several doses to work and can make you go too much.  However, once I got looser stools, I stopped it and went onto oranges which was better and natural with no side effects.  Initially, my doctor told me to come off oranges because my symptoms seemed to coincide with eating them.  He wanted to see if this was giving me stomach pain.  However, cutting them from my diet made me 50% worse so I went back on them and felt so much better.

The best thing to do is to try Linzess to see if it works for you without causing diarrhoea. Don't worry about others saying that it caused side effects because everyone reacts differently to medication.  You might not get these problems.  Try a low dose to start with and gradually increase your dose to gauge your response to it.

Thank you so much for all your help. I know it's awful to say, especially to people who deal with this too. But I already deal with chronic migraines and medications for that, I'm 19, I don't understand why the world works the way it does sometimes. I get down and start feeling like in just been given a sh*t hand. I know people have it worse, and I have to keep my chin up, but still. It helps to talk with someone who has been through this too.

It is awful to get bad luck like that at 19.  However, some people do get rid of IBS completely.  My brother had IBS at your age and often took to his bed with it. However, after years of it controlling his life, it suddenly disappeared and he is still symptom free. Hopefully, your migraines and IBS will become more manageable with time or eventually clear up completely.
