At what point do I ask for suppressive therapy?

I had an initial outbreak and was diagnosed with genital HSV1 just shy of a month ago. Noticed prodrome symptoms yesterday evening, started a Valtrex course today (500 twice a day for 3 days). I don't get my period because of the birth control that I'm on, but both outbreaks occurred roughly around the time that I would get my period. I personally would like to be on suppressive therapy for peace of mind, but my provider suggested that I should treat acutely. At what point would it be likely that I could convince her to prescribe suppressive therapy? I've now had 2 outbreaks in less than one month and, although this one is nowhere near as bad as the first and I caught it much sooner, I know that suppressive therapy can be effective against preventing them altogether.

i would just advocate for yourself girl, @ the end of the day its your body that is going through the pain- not hers

It's really not even a pain factor for me it's because I have anxiety and OCD so I find myself checking daily and I feel like if I was on suppressive therapy I wouldn't be so concerned about it. The doctor I saw wasn't my typical doctor because she wasn't available, so I may have a conversation with my normal doctor about it.

i just got diagnosed today, im going to wait & see if i get another outbreak & if i do, i will go on suppressive therapy as well. my first outbreak wasnt as terrible as everyone makes it seem it should be- which is why i was unsure if i had it to begin with, but the pain when urine hits the sores is awful. i do not want to go through that again

See if your doctor can or will prescribe you lidocaine gel! Mine did and it was a lifesaver for that part.
