Atenolol

When Infirst started I was in 100 mg. when my levels came into normal range the doctor dropped it down to 25 mg. now my specialist wants me to stop taking it. Yesterday was my first day with out it and just a walk to the bathroom my heart rate jumped to 139. The specialist nurse told me to take a 25 mg pill since my hr was so high. Isn't there a way to wean myself off instead of just stopping?

My labs are back in the normal rage besides the one it's not producing at all and my doctor said it would be about 6 wks before it started. I'm on 20 mg of methimazole and until yesterday was on 25 mg of atenolol

Your heart rate should drop further as the Carbimazole takes effect and your thyroid values come down. That is why your specialist recommended to stop taking the beta blocker Atenolol.
When I was hyperthyroid I was told to take beta blocker as and when required. I would typically take the lowest dose before going to bed just to reduce the pounding of the heart to be able to sleep. After a while I stopped taking beta blockers.

If I were you I'll wean myself off by taking half the pill daily. I've was diagnosed Hyper back in 2004, I was taking methimazole 15mg on & off years. Side effects was horrible so I stop taking it years ago and I was fine. However, I don't advise others to do the same. Even though I had no major issues. Do what's best for you. Good luck!

If I don't take the atenol My hr jumped up to 154 with just a small walk to the bathroom. My Soecialist is on vacation until the middle of next month and no one will call me back and answer me. So I started taking a low does of the atenolol when my heart goes too high. I was prescribed 25 mg and I have been breaking that in half and taking it. That small does lasts me all day and I'm fine until the next day.
