Atenolol & Anxiety

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have been off of Atenolol for approximately 5 months now.  When I was taking this drug, I took it twice a day for approximately two months.  Never in my life have I experienced issues with anxiety, until I came off of Atenolol.  It has gotten to the point to where I am even unable to consume anything that contains caffiene.  No sweet tea, soft drinks, chocolate. etc.  They will all cause unbearable anxiety.  I haven't had any luck with doctors regarding this either.  Seems like the ones I have talked to kind of shun away from issues with anxiety,  This is really affecting my life and starting to affect my job.  I am totally confused as to why this was never an issue in my life until coming off of Atenolol.  Any ideas or help?

prfxshn...You've been off the Atenolol for 5 months now, & you wer taking it 2x daily for approximately 2 months. What was the strength of the tablets? Naturally, if you were taking 50mg 2x daily, that's 100mgs over the period of the day. This is just an example. HOW did you come off the drug? This drug cannot be suddenly stopped...you must wean off it. Carefully check what's going on in your life...the problem may not lie with the Atenolol but something else.

    Hi,

Did you ever find relief? I Also stopped my beta blocker about 5 months ago and am having extreme anxiety and panic attacks. If you could please respond I would appreciate it. I too am being brushed off by doctors and made an appointment with a psychiatrist to see if he has additional information. Thank you for your help.

I still suffer from the anxiety and panic attacks.  I have to limit my caffiene still.  I wish you well with your psychiatrist.  I have talked to countless doctors.  They say I need to determine what my triggers are that bring on the episodes.  Problem is, I can be relaxing on the couch or in a deep sleep and awaken suddenly and suffer with an attack.  There are no triggers, they just happen.  I wish you well.

Don't waste your time could be something else. Check your adrenal glands and cortisol levels.

I just join in and all i learn that, medical professionals didn't know much and all these medicines we take we are really taking great chance. Obviously we might all have high blood pressure but the pills we get for this have different side effects to different people. And that is the heart of the problem,we just taking same tablets and we get different side effects.

I am on the Atenolol last 10 years there is no doubt has done side effects like; after sitting long when I get up dizziness is there and after gone.

Doing regular exirsize ( not to heavy ) it seams blood pressure is around 150 and if I relax it goes down 137 which is ok for my age.

Dr, priscribed to me Micardis and he says this is better, after taking 7 to 10 days middle of the night short of breath, can't breath,I thought I am going to die, after while ( it took like ages) started to breath again, after straight away I stopped the Micardis back to Tenormin then I newer had shortness of breath.

There is no doubt one medicine is not suitable for every people,so nice wonder we have so many blood pressure lowering medicine and they are trial and error continue.

Some of the medicine they have side effects stroke as well. Bloody hell !
