Athrosopic surgery

On the 9th of December I go for the first of 2 surgeries on both frozen shoulders. They are going to do the right one first because that’s the worst but to be honest at the moment I can’t tell because of the constant pain in both.
I’m having manipulation under anaesthetic along with arthroscopic capsule release. I’d like to find out from those who have had it done how long the recovery time is because I can’t get the left side done until the right is better. As you know the pain from FS is terrible, two is horrendous so I’m desperate for some relief so any time frame will at least give me something to aim for.
The surgeon was non committal about time as he said it depends on my range of movement and pain because I will need the right while the left is recovering and vica versa.

This is my best and only option, which I have no problems with I just want to know about recovery time.

I don’t know about the recovery time from the surgery you are having but I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your situation- 2 frozen shoulders at the same time?!
I know the pain is incredibly horrible.. also want to wish you luck and hope you recover very fast and well!!

Hi there, where about Australia are you in ? I am from Australia too, Perth. I am having a surgery next month for post op frozen shoulder. I had my rotator cuff repaired beginning of this year but unfortunately got complications with frozen shoulder. 2 crotisone shots but didn’t help. MRI has shown thickness in the joint as well as bone spur. My specialist told me it may take up to 12 months for the full recovery but there will be a movement straightaway. Keep me updated and all the best for your surgery👍👍

Hi Burtpies,
I am recovering from double-frozen-shoulders also, and you have my sympathy! I'm not sure there are any definite answers as to specific surgical outcomes or recovery times, but it sounds like your surgeon hopes to reduce the severity of your current pain and if he can achieve that it might relieve some of your suffering. Once your shoulders have been through the freezing stage and settle into the frozen stage the pain should lessen somewhat. So it is potentially a journey of management and waiting. The good news is that it will improve with time. Talk to your GP and/or endocrinologist about pain management - and perhaps consider asking for a referral to a pain specialist? The excruciating unrelenting pain of freezing shoulders is under-recognised and under-treated in my opinion. I had the best empathy and medical advice from Doctors who had themselves, or had someone very close to them, suffered from the condition and who had an intimate understanding of what it feels like. Go slow, keep reading and educating yourself and know that you will improve with time. Take care of yourself and good good luck. H

I appreciate the reply from everyone who understands how it feels. Obviously the main thing I’m hoping for is that I can get the second op done ASAP at least to be on the mend as soon as I can.

So if you will be doing the stretching exercises yourself, I’d guess at least two months, or longer? But as you know... it all depends on what it wants to do. Just be very diligent on your stretching, PT, and strength recovery. Best of luck to you!

So now, I’ve been called into the hospital for a pre admission medical. They said they are concerned about my medical history and may not be able to do the surgery. 😡😡 if this is the case then I have run out of options for treatment.

So if it means no surgery and just pain management and waiting then having those conversations with your docs to get better help with your pain will be vital. Keep asking until you get the help you need. Managing the pain so that you can sleep, eat, rest, take some level of care of yourself and maintain your mental and emotional health is most important! H
