Ativan

What do you do if the only thing that helps your anxiety is ativan? It is just one 0.5 mg tablet. I don't have to take them everyday but I try to force myself not to take them and end up suffering.

That is a very small amount, I would not suffer. Ativan didn't help me so I had to use another drug much stronger and more addicting. You are fortunate that it works well for you.

    Hi Kristin

Take the Ativan, and don't feel bad as it's a small dose and it's helping you. Whatever helps is good, as long as the cure is not worse than the curse. This is a nasty burden we bear. Hang in there.

Same here! Ask your doctor about taking .5 of klonopin instead, that is what I take. It's effects last longer that ativan's does.

The only other things that have any effect on my anxiety attacks are benedryl and lamictal. I'm not 100% sure the lamictol helps but the benadryl deffinantly does. It will make you sleepy so I take half a dose almost every night. It has helped me so much, I don't have to take as much klonopin. There is nothing wrong with taking knolopin/ativan, but your body can become immune.

hang in there! you're not alone! smile

Interesting. My Dr's wanted me off konopin as soon as I could get off safety because of addiction issues.

Its true that its not great to have to take this all the time. But its honestly not worth living in constant anxiety if you don't have to! Its not easy to get addicted on such a low dose.

The best thing for you would be to find an antidepressent/anxiety drug like welbutrin, lexapro, buspar that could keep you from needing the Ativan as often.

I am having trouble coming off slowly mirazapine.  I also use diazepam.  Dr hasnt suggested lamictal, can i ask if younhave used it for a while and it helps, the anxiety or if it gives any side effects on start up?

I actually haven't heard of diazepam, I looked it up and it is very simular to klonopin/ativan.

It helps stabalize my mood which helps decrease my anxiety. smile I only noticed it made me sick to my stomach, so I just have to make sure I take it with food!

If it helps and it's a small amount and you don't take it everyday I would stick with it. As others have said. Many people here suffering bad side effects and can't find a med that helps, meds are there for a reason. I take meds if I am really anxiuos like a flight or social occasion, but everyday things I now cope with by pushing myself without meds. All illnesses need medication, as long as you feel comfortable that you only take them when really nessasary this is a good thing, ideally we wouldn't take meds at all and some people don't but sometimes they are needed and not harmful in small amounts. Some poor people rely on them to get through the day. Believe me we are lucky??

I love my Ativan I also take .5 and it's a mriacle for me! I love that it calms me down and it's not something I have to take every day then wait 4-6 weeks for it to kick in and then suffer from side effects and then have to switch. I didn't want all that! I love bag my Ativan is just for when I need it and I don't get tired or feel any sort of "high" like people do on things like zanax
