Do your research - look at the pros and cons of the whole cholesterol issue, ie: whether you should even worry about it. If you are concerned about it after reading both sides of the argument (and there ARE two very distinct sides) then look into whether or not statins are worth taking, or are they just a nice little earner for the pharmaceutical companies. I've looked into it a lot, and my conclusion is that, unless your family suffer from heart problems and tend to die from heart attacks, you probably don't need to worry about your cholesterol at all. And if you agree with that, there's no reason to line Big Pharma's pockets by taking a drug that has massive side-effects (which are largely glossed over). But it's YOUR body, so you have to decide.

I'm sure everyone in the health service means well (of course) but you have to look at where they get their information from (Big Pharma reps and publications mainly), where they are trained (universities - funded to a large degree by you-know-who) and courses and conferences run by.... get the idea? This is why I say read everything you can find. I only formed this opinion after my partner had a stroke and was immediately prescribed statins (cholesterol was fine), blood pressure pills (he'd never suffered from high blood pressure) and blood thinners. He immediately developed side effects from the statins which is when I did my research. Stopped those immediately (against advice of doctors, but we made our own decision). He's had no further tests to establish whether he really needs these drugs, nor was he ever given information on the necessity of taking CoQ10 (not available on the NHS) which is essential to your body, and statins prevent absorption of it from your food. His specialist had never even HEARD of CoQ10!! I can only say again, do your research - both for and against - and make your decision. But if you've always been healthy, your cholesterol is 'normal' (I take no notice of it personally) why would you take a prescribed drug that will merely make the pharmaceutical companies even more money?
