Atrial ectopy or pac, atrial tachycardia, afib

Posted , 2 users are following.

This is my report, should I be concerned? What can I expect at cardiologist?

Event monitor prescribed 30 days. Monitored time 7d 3h 3m.

7 strips submitted with symptoms, primarily skipped beats and one "other than listed."

18 strips submitted as auto trigger without symptoms.

Heart rates between 50 and 151 bpm. All strips show sinus rhythm. Most show premature atrial beats with some couplets and some short runs of nonsustained atrial tachycardia. One brief episode of possible atrial fibrillation lasting 5 beats.

Strips with symptoms show atrial ectopy but multiple strips with atrial ectopy did not have symptoms submitted.

Summary:

Event monitor shows frequent atrial ectopy that may be producing symptoms of skipped beats.

It looks like all your problems come from your atrium. That means the top part, not the ventricles. Which is good. Now, they don't say if your heartbeat pauses or goes too low. 50 is low. But that might me at night. It sounds pretty good to me. Sounds like you have Premature atrial beats, which normally are not dangerous. You only had a very short afib . ( barely noticeable) I think the Dr. May do nothing or put you on a beta blocker. You are lucky it is all Atrial. ( in my opinion) I hope you let us know what Dr. says. I would not be worried. Looks good. I pray for the best. Let us know!!( I am in no way a medical person, just have had lots of stuff!! )God Bless!!Mabel

In my research I read that frequent episodes of atrial ectopy or pac can precede afib. Sometimes atrial ectopy can aso be caused by ischemic heart damage or structural issue. All 18 strips had atrial ectopy which seems like a lot to me. My biggest concern is I am only 42 which is Young for afib I would think, the frequency, and with this being continuous my decline in strenuous activity which I am missing but get weak and winded too quickly. It's almost 2 months of this around the clock which is obnoxious to say the least and restricting on the other end of the spectrum. I was on metoprolol but ended up nearly driving off a ledge after dozing as it made me so sleepy.

Well, you could blow me over with a feather! I just had my first ( recorded) afib attack about a month ago. I say recorded, becuase I think I have had them over the years, woke up at night with skipping and heart racing. Did holter monitors never found anything but pacs and pvcs on them. But, last year I had a LINQ monitor inplanted and it found that I was having bradycardia and pauses ( just 2 of them) but they recommended I get a pacemaker. So,got that in December. Does not help the skips at all!!! I am on metrpopol and Pradaxa now for the Afib. Not happy about it but it is what it is. I would agree 42 is young for afib. I hope it is not. If you have to get a pacemaker, it is not too young.People get those at all ages for all kinds of proplems I have learned. I joined the Pacemaker Club on line. They are a wealth of information and very kind people.I thought my life was over with the pacemaker, but no, and many have afib, with and many other things and go out and are very active and live long lives. Try not to worry. I just had a shot in my back for my SI joint. So, have to lay low tonight. Would like a drink, but cant since I take the Pradaxa till tomorrow, dont want to thin the blood anymore than it is. What I hate with the Afib dianosis is that I cant take any aleve or Advil .Tylenol does not help my achy joints much! I am 65 but feeling older these days! Trying to feel better .We are going on a cruise in Sept. Trying to get as mobile as I can to be able to go snorkling!I love to do that!!! Let me know what the Dr thinks. Try to stay positive and go over to the Pacemaker Club . They are wonderful folks. Very inspiring! Hugs, Mabel

Now, we are jumping ahead. You don't know if you have afib yet. I am not sure, but they told me no Nsaids. I can take a little tramadol. But ,gotta be careful because I take a benzodiazepines . Well, I am having sympathetic skips for you! Have had about 5 since we last spoke. I take that Metropopol, and I just looked it up, it Causes skips and you should tell your Dr if you are getting them more! I think I have had about 15 today. I usually only get a couple. I mostly feel little jumps in throat. I hate calling the Dr again . I am afraid he will drop me. Seems I have called him every week for awhile now. Or, I can just keep trusting God!!! Hugs, don't worry to you have to!! Goes for me too!!! Mabel

Honestly, I am not that worried just full of questions. I know they saw a very short stint of what might be afib but that was all. I was just curious if Advil causes afib or not since I take tons of it. I am actually pretty convinced the humira might have caused my arrythmias which means a) damage could have been done b) it will all go away as the medication leaves my system, or c) having ra and hypertension is causing irritation to the heart leading to the pac with no relation to the humira. I also have been diagnosed with concurrent svt as well.
