Atrial Fibrillation and hip replacement

Posted , 5 users are following.

I am due to have a hip replacement next month and have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (the consultant knows about this). I'm not on any blood thinners just beta blockers and anti arrhymics

Does anyone know if this might affect or delay surgery?

Hi have you spoken to the anesthetist and your cardiologist, what are you having spinal, I'm absolutely sure that if you're surgeon is aware then he would not be going ahead with it if it wasn't safe.

My mother in law had hers done at 80 with AF and had spinal, she was absolutely fine except for the surgeon complaining afterwards that she didn't stop talking all the way through 😂

She 91 now and hip was just x-ray last year for 20 years and is fine

Let me know how you get on, I'm waiting for my date eeeek
