Atrial flutter Non obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Posted , 3 users are following.

I previously experienced  paroxysmal AF but past 4 weeks it has changed to permanent atrial flutter. I have become extremely breathless and pain down arms when walking. I take Amiodarone 100mg and Bisoprolol 10mg for past 5 years. I have attended accident and emergency twice but they said I just have to wait for cardiology appt wh ich could be another 6 weeks. I am at the end of my tether completly shattered and so worried, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello marion49707, having had AF for some time I presume you are also on some sort of anti-coagulant? The main problem from AF is the potential for strokes. My experience with AF started last year and has led to my CRT-D intervening and stopping progression to more life threatening arrhythmias several times. On  the first of these occasions I had my main anti-arrhythmic medicine changed to Amioderone, and my anti-coagulant to Revaroxaban. My Cardiologist had a discussion with me and we agreed that the next "event" would mark need for further intervention via Ablation. AF is horrible and if you need to respond then try just slowiing life down a little if that is possible for you. Are you prescribed Glyceryl Trinitrate? I use it proactively as well as reactively sometimes when movement will cause angina-like pain.

Hope all goes well with you.

I can empathize with your situation.  These kinds of rhythm issues wreak havoc on our quality of life.  I don't take any of the medications your on, but my afib episodes keep me trapped on my bed when I experience them.  The last one lasted three hours.  I see my cardiologist in a few weeks for my regular app and I will definitely broach this subject then.  I won't mind one bit if I have to go back on digoxin, it kept everything under control for 18 years, I should never have been taken off of it.
