Atypical facial pain

Hi I have been told I have atypical facial pain, I thought I had sinus blockage but Now been told they are clear. I don't know a lot about this condition. I have symptoms of sinus infection , shooting pains through my nose, eyes swollen and headaches. Also get pain in ears. My forehead feels tensed. I have been reading and my symptoms don't sound the same as other people, I don't have any tooth pain. I have also read that it's psychological is it? I have been put on amytripteline and booked to go see a neurologist, what would the neurologist do?  Is this a bad ongoing condition ?? Help please , need to understand what is wrong with me

What dose are you on ?

I've been on amitriptyline since last May 30-40 mg per night I get ringing in ears all the time at night it's awful.

What you have is nerve pain Neuropathic

Pain ( neuralgia ) which comes from the Nerves in your face you said your seeing a neurologist will do test on your body

It may be all in your head but they will conduct test to rule out other conditions you May have

You sound like your symptoms are a lot worse than mine, you poor thing. I Just hope that's not what they think as I am actually starting to get fed up, I have asked the doctor to call me tomorrow to explain in more detail and hopefully I will be able to sleep better. Hmmmm I wonder what test they will do, thankyou for your info, very informative . Does the amytripteline help you???

      Thank you

Amitriplyine has been the only drug that has helped with the pain I can now sleep before I was not getting sleep at all I started like you at 10mg Then went up 30-40 mg plus tramadol.

I read some info into what you have seems not much on the internet about it yes I would ask the GP to explain everything too you another thing I can cut my toes nails and not feel anything in toes I'm seeing another specialist this has been going on since nov 2014 all started in my ribs

Ask what test the specialist will do to put your mind at ease I know it's a massive worry as it is get me down but it will not beat me

Takes between 4-6 weeks for full effect for the drug to work
