Auntibiotics triggering OLP

hi there.

ive had OLP (erosive) for the past 3.5 yrs . ive been lucky enough to avoid having to use antibiotics until recently. My family dr prescribed 10 days of 850mg Acyclovir. I ended up seeing a specialist who said I may not have needed to be on the antibiotics but since I had started them- i had to finish. When i stopped taking the antibiotics, my mouth became a nightmare. I developed open sores along the sides and under my tongue, on my inner cheeks.

one week after finishing antibiotics, my sores are just beginning to calm down but i have leukoplakia everywhere... even along the roof of my mouth my towards my throat.

I am 100% positive that this horrible outbreak was triggered by the antibiotics.

Unless its life or death, i will never take antibiotics again.

Anyone have a similar experience with olp and antibiotics?

    Hi Trudy

Aciclovir isn't an anotibiotic though, its an antivral, mainly used to treat Herpes virus, or do you mean you were perscribed an antobiotic as WELL as ?

I've had a weird ulcer for a few months and was perscribed Amoxyclav antobiotiocs which I took for over 2 weeks and i'm sure it has zapped my already low immune system, I feel it has brought on Thrush as my mouth is often tingling and tongue sore but wondering if its OLP instead!?

i developed OLP (erosive) after taking a high dose CLARYTHROMYCIN for a extended period at least two weeks or more. i first developed a bad case of thrush after it cleared i noticed the white lines, saw my dentist who diagnosed it as LP. a short while later i started noticing my gums burned and itched when brushing with minty toothpaste. ever since i have erosions along my gumline. its been about two years now. i also have skin involvement with spots on my legs and hips. I do believe the antibiotic triggered all this.
