Aura Numbness Paranoia - Does Anyone Else Get This?

Posted , 4 users are following.

So every now and again I get migraines - lately, kind of in small seasons cause for over a period of a couple of weeks I get them on and off and then then they bugger off for a bit. I get aura in the form of blind spots and moving patterns in my eye, and most concerning of all travelling numbness that goes over my fingers, wrist, and one half of my cheek/mouth area.

But the worst if it at the moment is this sense of fear when I don't have a migraine for a while, that I'm going to get one. Its the numbness that worries me most of all - not a pleasant experience. it leaves me usually concentrating on how my hands are feeling - which can sometimes feel weak or light and sometimes whether what I can see is a blind spot or an eye floater.

Distractions do tend to help me but you can't be distracted all the time can you?

Does anyone else get this? Is there anything I can do for it? Any suggestions appreciated

I get exactly the same kind of migraines, they are over in about an hour. They really use to scare me. It I now know they always pass. Magnesium helps me a lot so maybe try it.

Might be an idea, take it you get them from health food shops.

Any dangers of taking Magnesium when you don't need it? (Just in case)

    Hi there,

I get the ocular migraines too. Mine start off with a blind spot usually on the outer side of the eye. Thencomes the zig zag semicircles that spark colours. You can watch them pass from one side to the other.  Sometimes, my arms and hands feel numb. This is quite common with this  visual craziness. Try googling ocular migraines. Mine last about 20 minutes and then they go away.

Now the difference between you and me is that i never get the migraine. No headaches just the ocular which is a precursor

It is hard not to panic when this is happening so never sure the hand/arm thing gets worse because the the panic

The first time it happened I freaked out, but because it usually only happens in the fall or spring, I have been able to control the panic, as I know what it is, and that it does go away

    Hope this helps

Yes the same with me, no headache at all. Once in a blue moon I may get a mild beach ache after the migraine.

If the migraine occurs in my right eye, I can sometimes get confused and can't remember people's names but it only lasts about 20 minutes. If th migraine occcurrs in my left eye, which it normally does, the whole thing from whoa to go is about an hour, then I'm totally back to normal.

They don't make me panic like they use to anymore.

      Hi Liza,

      There are weird eh?

Have you ever experienced broken blood vessels in your eye with them sometime before the ocular thing, or after it? Sometimes I get them. They can be  a couple of days either before or after.

That is s something about your right or left eye.  I find these ocular things are seasonal  either Sept/Oct   ot April/May.   Strange eh?

Also seasonally,  I get vertigo same time of year  fall or spring. Just had a 3 week bout of it.  Good to see that gone

That is the first time I've heard of someone getting them just like you, I thought it was just me.

Left eye, visual zigzags, and blind spots, and feel a bit vague, right eye, visual zigzags, blind spots but also confusion and can't remember people's names. But they mainly occur in the left eye usually.

Is it possible that some of your symptoms are due to drug interactions?

The migraine is the trigger but if you are taking to many migraine drugs you can get a mild serotonin syndrome reaction. Heart races. Tingling. Numbness. Anxiety. Check your drugs for interactions if you take any. Its scary how anti anxiety, depression and migraine treatment can cause issues, they can cause symptoms of the very thing they are being used to treat. Its a bad cycle. I was on toprimate, endep and taking triptans when needed and i was so anxious, emotional and subconscious of everything and anything. I was on the combination for a while before it became an issue.

    On another note.

I would also suggest you talk to your gp about an mri of your cervical spine, not sure if you have had your thyroid and magnesium levels checked .

Good luck, try not to worry, i know thats is difficult when you dont feel well.
