after suffering a major panic attack that caused me to constantly hyperventialte i cant seem to allow my body to breathe automatically.
when i breathe i feel the need to yawn or take a deep breath to satisfy my air hunger
anyone out there that has experienced how did you get your body to regulate back to automatic breathing?

I feel like for me it had to do with my adrenal glands. I am still rebuilding them. my Dr had to put me on benzodiazepines first so I could stop hyperventilating. I know exactly how you feel. I wish you the best!

thank you
i have had many tests done for me including mri of my brain, carrotid arteries, chest x-ray, they even checked my oxygen level by taking blood from my artery and they said everything was fine
i dont feel anxious but yet at times i always have this urge to yawn, or take a deep breath and the severity ranges throughout the day this has been going on for over a month and i have read that people have dealt with this issues for years

Yes, I feel like I have been dealing with it now for over a year or so. It is very concerning. I never thought I would have issues with feeling like a can't breathe. It seems like it should be something your body just does without you needing to think about it. It's very frustrating. I honestly am very scared to go off benzodiazapines b/c they seem like they are regulating things for me. I started getting this really bad after losing my mom. I think my body and brain went into some sort of shock. I am really at a loss as to how to fix it permanenetly and that is very frustrating. If you ever find a solution, please let me know!!!

Isn't it normal when you wake up in the morning?
I would try the Peter Renner "4 point breathing" : pause - slow inhale...saying "breathing".....slow exhale. pause - over and over.
Are you sure you are keeping your mouth closed always (except for obvious exclusions?) -Open mouth breathing is a huge cause for we hyperventilators.

once i wake up im consious of my breathing and its not automatic breathing
i usually breathe through my mouth even when automatic breathing but i havent hyperventilated since my last panic episode a month ago but it was severe hyperventilating its just at times i cant satisfy my need for air when i breathe normally and have to take a deep breath or yawn

Yawning a lot is a symptom of anxiety.
What is automatic breathing? Do you mean to breathe naturally, without stopping to think about it?

Anxiety will cause you to be hyper aware of things, most common thing is breathing. Once you get the anxiety calmed you probably won't even notice it anymore.
Are you taking anything for anxiety?

i have been taking klonopin 4 times a day for a month at 0.5 mg each for a total for 2 mg. inunderstand benzos are supposed to be fast acting but this drug does nothing for me and i plan to be taken off this benzo.
i was taken lexapro for a month as well at 20 mg. this drug also has done nothing for me as well.
i will be starting prozac today at
10 mg for the first week
20 mg for the second week
30 mg for the third week
40 mg for 4th week
my new doctor believes since lexapro isnt proven to treat ocd for everyone i will be better suited for prozac due to my ocd tendecies
i only plan on taking these drugs temporarly as i do not wish to rely on them for a lifetime

I have heard that prozac seems to treat ocd and ocd tendencies better then the others. Let me know how it works for you.
