avascular necrosis thr

Due to having avascular necrosis in left hip meaning i need a total hip replacement at 29 years old. My consultant has recomended trying a new replacement called tribo fit just a bit worried how long it will last and the procedure in general😞

    Son is 30, has Avascular Necrosis. He had LTHR March 8, will have RTHR July 5. Tribo is not something done in US. Looks like the difference is the urethane which mimics cartilege. Do you have a surgery date?

    Welcome to the hip forum, Dom. Most are older than you. A handful your age. A few even younger. 

    Avascular Necrosis and OsteoArthritis are evil and devastating. Sorry to be so honest. Don't be afraid of the procedure. It's the bone on bone pain before, and the recovery after surgery that are hard.

      Yes i have had a few surprised looks when i am sat in the waiting room for the hip clinic among a load of 65+ year olds. I have my pre op with in two weeks the the surgery will be done within 3 month's

      Much the same way as a ceramic thr but it has a polycarbonate-urethane in between ball and socket to act as cartalige and help wear rates hopefully

    Hi Dom

    I am 17 and I have avascular necrosis in both hips I need to get both hips replace getting one done in August since they responded it a few times. I has had it since a I was about 8/9 years old. I hope your surgery goes well!

      I hope your surgery goes well! You have suffered for a long time with it then. I guess i am lucky in a way really its progression has been quick only 4 years or so.

      Thank-you. Yeah I have it's been a difficult journey but I will finally get there. I guess that's good. having avascular necrosis is horrible may people over the world have it. When is your surgery?.

      Within 3 months hopfully even though the consultant has tried his best to put me off having it done at a young age did they try some thing simular with you?

      Yeah they did. My doctor didn't want me to get it done till I was in my 30s, but my pain is unbelievable. I am only medication for it. I will need to get a left hip replacement and a right hip replacement, getting my right first as its worse than the left. I already have one leg shorter than the other. I am in constant pain which it annoying. Hopefully you get a date soon!.

    SO sorry to hear about your upcoming hip surgery ... I have not heard about Tribofit before and looked it up - seems to be one of the latest hip/knee prothesis - forgive if I sound ignorant - and supposed to delay wear and tear -

    your surgeon should be able to tell you how long it will last and also explain the procedure to you -

    in my humble opinion, the procedure seems similar to THR - but what do I know, right?

    Can you get a second opinion?

      Yes its a new form of Thr with a plastic buffer acting as a form of cartalige. Other than that its just a normal ceramic thr because its new they are not sure of the wear rates yet its still a trail. Trying to get an idea of how long on average thr last is difficult even my consultant says only 10 years or so but he keeps trying to put the operation off as long as possible sounds like they dont like doing it in young people beacuse of all the problems it can cause but a thr much out weighs the cons at the minute

      Thank you for explaning ... That is tough ... I read that today's hip prothesis can last 15-20 years - so the chance that you might have to have another THR is big - but this technology is advancing so much that, who knows, by that time they have something else - 

      Are you in a lot of pain?

      Yes alot of pain there is nothing else pain medication wise they can give me 😞 just nervous and apprehensive about the operation now though
