Avoid wheat for 2 weeks

my advice to all PMR sufferers is to do a trial period of 2 weeks without wheat and see how you feel. I am convinced that it is a major factor in my own case .

just try it , avoid every type of wheat and in all its forms, no bread, no wheat based cereal , no cake, no soya sauce(yup!) , watch out for the less obvious ways that it can creep in to your diet also.

and then see if your symptoms improve

it worked spectacularly for me.

Interesting! Although I haven't cut out wheat, I've reduced it drastically through a low-carb diet and I feel much better for it. When I say 'much better', I mean better generally, not just 'PMR-better'.

By the way, on a wheat-free diet you can use tamari instead of soya sauce.

Good thoughts. My grandson has life threatening allergies to dairy, wheat, and many other foods.. mustard, sesame seeds, and more. This was from birth. The doctors at Hopkins said, " auto immune." His is for life and difficult. Some of the intolerances are better. His allergies remain.

Foods can be an issue, sugar is another culprit that causes inflammation. 😦

You have brought up a good point.

There is a wheat free soy sauce! We modify and adapt most recipes.

Finding allergen foods isn't easy, but it is doable. Thanks .. this is a good point.

i have spent last few days reducing the 'not so good food' in my fridge ready for a concerted effort on my weight loss.....from tomorrow, I am going to try no / low carbs and no sugars to see if it makes a difference, though i am not expecting it to be easy: I.have been looking at the diet doctor regime but it uses many foods i dont like....so am busy finding substitutes! Daft really as i need something to follow as am rubbish at working things out myself....but have to stop being a wimp and get on with it......am making some soup today that will help for at least one meal a day......will let you know how it goes.......in more ways than one....primarily I need weight loss and hopefully the other cut backs will help my general wellbeing.......x

If it seems very daunting it may be easier to reduce carbs & sugars gradually. Cut out biscuits, then cut out bread, then potatoes, etc. After a while you won't even miss them.

      Good luck!

If you are allergic to wheat, yes it will help. If you are not, then it won't make any difference. Sure you will cut some carbs out of a diet, and it may help with weight gain problem, but that is different issue.

I was eating a gluten-free diet in the early stages of PMR as I have a wheat allergy - which is thought to be associated with the a/i part of the PMR. I still eat no wheat although I eat other forms of wheat such as spelt and kamut but it has never made a significant difference to the PMR symptoms. What DOES make a difference I think is cutting carbs in general - although I can't say it has removed the PMR symptoms altogether I do seem to have fewer problems than others who still eat carbs in quantity.
