Awaiting endoscopy results and terrified

Hi all, would appreciate if anyone is willing to share stories of their experiences, I have been experiencing chest pain for 3 years now after falling from a tree and landing on my back (playing with my kids!) Started getting pain when swallowing around 6 months ago, Dr sent me for x-rays and to muscular skeletal team which both came back normal so he sent me for an endoscopy which found some inflammation on the stomach and a small lump on my esophagus which he took biopsies from, I was meant to go for a follow up appointment in mid December but they called yesterday and said could I go in tomorrow as the surgeon wants to speak to me, I know I shouldn't of but I Google the symptoms and it seems I have the 2 main symptoms of esophageal cancer and I am absolutely terrified, has anyone else had these symptoms and a lump found and it has been ok?? Thanks in advance xx

Hi there,  I am just on here reading about endoscopy as it may be in my future.  For a little ove 4 months I have been experiencing some new symptoms.....started with Chest pain spasms so sever I went to hospital where they ruled out any heart condition, than after that it seemed I felt like thee was a lump in my throats when swallowing and sometimes it felt like I was being strangled.  I wasn't sure if it was anxiety, or what they feel could be GERD.....so I am being sent to get a barium swallow....and there is that chance of an enndoscopy which terrifies me just thinking about it.  But we have to be proactive when something doesn't feel right in our bodies. I really hope you have found out results...the waiting is the worst part.  My husband had a recent endoscopy and he got his report that day, however no biopsies were taken....

    Good evening Karina.

Well my story is short but will give my experience of upper endoscopy.   Had problems swallowing for many years (8 or so) Finally went for my upper endoscopy 5weeks ago.  After doing what everybody naturally does and are warned against I spent a week looking at all he Horror stories .   Finally sat waiting in the waiting room I was ushered into a consultation room to sign the consent and discuss sedation or local anaesthetic spray .   Opted for the spray and off I went to the endoscopy room.    5 squirts followed by. A swallow.  Then another 5 the other side of my throat followed by another swallow.  What followed was a rather odd sensation of numbness which had been explained.  A mouth guard popped in I was ready to go .   My consultant was very clear on the next step which was to swallow when requested   .. duly swallowing which felt a bit odd due to the spray and in the tube went.   painful? Not at all .  Odd sensation yes as it’s not something we would normally feel.   Superb comfort from my nurses.   I find myself staring at some random buttons on the equipment.  Next some biopsies were taken.   No sensation at all.  Some rather impressive burps follow with a bit of expected retching ( thank goodness for the fasting requested before ). 5mins past and the tube is retracted.  More impressive burps and a few more university day dry retching and it’s over.    To summarise.

Painful .... Not in the slightest

    Weird sensation .. Yes

Conclusion ....  Local spray did the job.  20 Mins later I’m on my way home in my car. Thinking “Why was I worrying so much ?”

It’s of course a worrying wait before.  But please be reassured that it’s over in a short period and waiting for my exam results was worse.   I wish you well and hope this has helped.

I had an endoscopic ultra sound last week and opted for the twilight med.  I felt no sensation in my throat, and wasn't even aware of when the endoscope was inserted. Just came to, and it was over.  Just another perspective to help you make your decision.
