Did you tear the rotator cuff? Depends on what procedure they will do of course. Most likely you will be in an immobilizer sling anywhere 4-6 weeks. Plan on having some help because you will be one armed for a bit. get button shirts or large t shirts that are easy to put on...and camisoles that you can step into. Pull on pants so you don't have to deal with buttons... Have some of those dental floss sticks since you will only have one hand to floss. Many people sleep in a recliner for a short period of time after the surgery because lying flat is uncomfortable. I only slept in the recliner 3-4 nights and then put a wedge on my bed with some pillows to prop the arm on for another few nights and gradually was able to lie flat with just some pillows to prop the arm on. you may want to have a seat in your shower so you don't have to worry about balance. Every one is a little different. make sure you have someone to drive you for your follow up appointments until you are able to handle the steering wheel. If they don't give you a cold machine have some cold packs on hand. I hope it goes smoothly for you.

Hi! I am now 10 weeks post op and finally making some progress.  It has been a difficult recovery and very limiting but I could not have continued with the pain I had before.  Accept as much help as you can get for the first week and then gradually work out managing small tasks.  A stool in the bath/shower is essential and some small pots to hold shampoo/face creams etc to make them easier to apply with one hand. Clothing needs to be loose-elasticated waist trousers and front fastening tops.  Take the pain medication as prescribed (I tried to cut down too soon and paid the price!). Good luck and hang on in there!
