awaiting referal from TIA

Has anyone been waiting too long for a follow up appointment from their recent stroke/TIA? I was told that I would be seen in 4 weeks, but I will not be seen till December?!!!! Is this acceptable? I think Not!

Gavin, if you were told 4 weeks for a follow-up appointment and you have been sent an appointment for December then, if it was me, I would be contacting the hospital and querying it.  Meanwhile, if you have any worries then don't hesitate to contact your GP.

    Hi Gavin,

Usually whilst in hospital you are seen by the stroke team and all explanations given and tests/assesments,  performed...I.E movement, speech, strength, etc etc,  when well enough to be sent home....TIA that is,  will be sent home and a follow up usually occurs anywhere between 4 weeks to 6 months depending on how bad they think you are. As MrsO has said any worries speak to your GP

I had all assessments done and the consultant said you will be seen in 4 weeks if you get seen at Grimsby, but I asked to be seen at Lincoln which is near me, so sort of my fault! But still not good! I do still have some small episodes, forgetting things and balance. So will just have to wait I guess :-)

Understand fully Gavin.... I have mental blanks when talking to someone, I know what I'm going to say but when I go to say it I'm at a complete loss as to what I was going to say...lol... I'm forgetful and occassionally thrown off balance since my TIA.

I've had 2 more episodes since the first one late last year, I ignored one but called an ambulance for the last one, because I won't lay on the bed for an MRI they said my last episode could be a migraine. They said to me that I could be developing them as I get older this can happen, I've never been the one to get headaches in my entire life unless it's medicine induced...I.E Angina medications but panadol gets rid of that, so who knows smile I've never experienced a migraine to know how they feel, The symptoms I  had in my very first episode "apparently" fitted the bill for a TIA and was treated for that, spent a week in hospital and recuperated but as I said have since had memory loss and the occassional balance problem
