I hear ya, sleep eludes me all the time. Even if i take 30 mg of valium and a shot of whiskey i might get 5 good hours. But i have found an herbal pill that shockingly helps. Now i know we have all heard the, try melatonin, try gaba, blah blah.....none of that stuff works. I can take 2 ambien and i may as well take a vitamin c pill. Im prescibed oxycodone for chronic back pain but i dont take it every day, only when my back really hurts, a few of those will knock me out nicely, but i refuse to become a faily user of opiates because we all know the road that leads to. However, i found this stuff at walgreens called Somnapure "natural sleep aid" it ha valerian, lemon balm, L-Theanine, hops extract, chamomile, passion flower, and melatonin in it. Take 2 of those along with some wal-som "doxylamine succinate" and for me i get a good nights sleep. 6-8 hours on average and have no brain fog when i awake. And im someone with anxiety and mild ptsd. Ymmv, but its worth a try.

Do not take Amitriptyline, especially not for sleep. Go back to your quack of a doctor and tell them you have a SLEEP problem. Not depression, not anxiety..... insomnia!

You need to be very firm with them, tell yourself that you aren't leaving until you get a medication which will help you. I advise doing a lot of research before you go to your appointment. Good luck, it's taken me 4 years to find a doctor who will actually listen to me.

Lawdawg, stop taking Diazepam with hard alcohol please. With the problems you have you will put yourself in an early grave, seriously be careful...

What are u taking for insomnia. He got me on 10 mg endeo makes me a day time zombie starting taking 5mg now half a zombie. Please everyone dont take benzo ie ativan diaz. Tgey r addictive. I stook 6 months to wean off and 8 months after stopping still having protracted rebound withdrawal. Drs will usually deny this and withdrawal from anti deppressants exists .

I'm taking Trazadone at the moment, not sure what to think of it yet I'm still trying to get the dosage right. I started on 50mg just recently, it done nothing. Upped it to 100mg, worked for a few days then I started waking up after 2 hours and not able to sleep for the rest of the night. Also having flu like symptoms and as you say, feeling and looking like a zombie the next day. Not good at all. I've split the capsules and I'm now taking just 25mg with flu medicine and melatonin (not sure if this does anything tbh but can't hurt to take it I guess..). I slept ok last night, I think?, so I'll try the same tonight.

    Hi Theg

I don't sleep well either but have accustomed myself to it and spend much of the night reading a`nd listening either the radio or music.  My gp gives me diazepam for anxiety but doersn't want me taking it for sleep as it makes dependance and tollerance more likely, I only take it a few times a month and don't really like the way it makes me feel to be honest.  She also offered me amitryptilene for pain but I declined that as I'm bipolar and already another anti-dep so it could trigger hypomania, listening to what you have to say I'm glad I didn't go on it.  I'm lucky in that I'm retired and living with mum so when I do get tired, be it in the day or at any other time, I can just sleep.

Wishing you well in your struggle

    Lizzie
