Hi,

My name is Holly I'm 27 and have been under an awful amount of family stress over the past year. On the weekend me and my partner went away, I had awful aniexty felt like I couldn't breath just wanted to be home....on our return in Sunday I had a full panic attack which resulted in me calling an ambulance as I was home alone. I have never been so scared. After going to the doctors they have prescribed me 50mg Sertraline and Propanolol for as and when my aniexty is bad.

My main issues with aniexty are eating out, feeling trapped, worried I may collapse at any point, light headed, upset stomach, sweaty hands and the shakes.

I want to try the tablets but have read nothing but bad reviews about Sertraline, please can you guys share any good reviews, honest opinions or anything really that you think would help as I feel like I'm going crazy daily tears and very low mood sad

Thankyou in advance. Xxx

Hi holly. Sorry to hear you are going through such a tough time. I'm on sertraline and, I can't lie, the initial adjustment period and side effects can be rough. But, when you turn the corner the benefits far outweighed the negative side effects. I just prepared myself for the worst, told myself that the bad stuff caused by the meds were JUST the meds and NOT me. Took one day at a time and looked for a silver lining every day. Unfortunately there is no quick fix for anxiety (I wish there was). But you've already taken the hardest step by asking for help. You can and will beat this x

Thankyou so much for your reply, I tried going back to work and telling myself I didn't need the meds....I have now realised that I really do after having a panic attack at work. I'm going to start them today.....nervous as hell....that's the aniexty though. How are you getting on? Also did you find it increased your aniexty the first few days? X

Hello Holly, I was put on 50mg of Sertraline one week ago and like you I read so much about bad side effects that I almost didn't take them. Well I can honestly say that one week one I have had no side effects at all and I already feel like I am improving. I would encourage you to take them, they really will help. And even if you are unfortunate and have some side effects, they won't last too long and you will begin to feel better. smile

Hi holly, I have been on sertraline(50mg) for the last month and I can tell you that I was just the same as you at the start, the first night that I was to start taking them I spent about three hours online reading all about the side effects, the good pionts and the bad points with this med, and It scared the life out of me so I ended up going to bed a complete reck. Next day I could not get out of bed, so I decided that I had no choice but give them a go so that evening I took my first tablet, Its now one month later and I am 80% better and getting better every day, At the start I had a few side effects like sick feeling every morning but that passed after about two weeks(make sure you eat if this happens even do you may not feel like it, just something small will do like toast and decaf tea) I also had the increased sweating, and feeling strange but this all passed over time,I also suffered from insomnia and still kind of do some nights are ok and I do get about 6 or7 hours sleep but more times I could be awake for most of the night and only get 2 to3 hours but its getting better, The one thing that I still get is a fuzzy head in the mornings but this passes after a hour or so, One thing that I found was at the start was even do I did not want to get out of bed I forced myself to get up and get out a get some exercise and fresh air and this worked wonders. This is my story so far so I hope you get better soon and if you need to ask anything or just talk, we are here for you and just take it day by day and you will get there.

    Hi holly

sorry your going through a very time, I take 100mg sertraline daily, I did have the worst side effects for about 3 weeks, it's just the medication getting around your body.

everyone is different with medication, you may not get any side effects at all.

I also took diazepam when bad, now on calms.

why don't you ask GP about starting on 25 and slowly increasing the dose.

I could it take fluoxetine or citalapram because of bad side effects, I can't even take hrt, makes me very angry, I am on sertraline for the menopause, along with hundreds of vitamins, I can't say I am 100% yet but I have turned a corner, and you will too.

your not going crazy, start a mood diary, write down everything your feeling on that day, and keep posting on here.

did your GP give you a crisis no to call if things got bad, if not, there is always the Salvation Army, and the hospital.

you will be ok, it takes time. 👍🏻

    Hi Holly

I don't know if this will help as I have only been one Sertraline for only two weeks. reading lots of things on here I feel lucky. I have had few side effects, slight headache, stomach upset and tbh not much else. I am taking the same dose as you. I know they will react differently for everyone. I think you also need to take into acount that when people post on a forum often it is because something negative has happened and we are looking for advice ets. So many things you read can sound very negative. Hope this makes sense and I haven't offended anyone.

My advice would be to try and them becasue the side effects might be minamal as they have been with me.

    hope this helps
