I was on setraline over a year ago got better and came off them! However due to being ill and a lot of stress at home I've reached what feels like breaking point, does any of you feel like you can't cope anymore and feel on the edge of a breakdown? My heart pounds from morning to night, I've gone off food, panic attacks that lasts hours, last night it got so bad I really scared myself. I went docs today and was giving sertraline again just feel I've failed as I come so far but I can't take feeling like this all day everyday. Constant living in fear wondering "what is happening to me?" "Am I going mad"? Slowly not seeing light at the end of tunnel sad((

Hi Gem. Sorry to hear about your difficult time and struggling with panic and stress. Do you know what may have caused this recent episode of being on the edge of breakdown? Can you articulate it? We all feel like this sometimes, and you will recover, though I accept it may feel impossibl from where you are now. Coming off sertraline can cause a rebound effect which can cause anxiety to return with avengence. Maybe taper it off more slowly next time you stop. Try not to think yourself out of it - you will be OK. Get some exercise perhaps and try to reduce the stressers by small amounts if you can (time-out, a walk, listen to music etc.). People who are going "mad" dont know they are going mad, so your insight shows you have your wits still, but just very anxious and panicked. Could be medication-caused. Likely you will settle over time, but you need to believe it and feel it in your heart I accept. Have a read of the book just published called 'Recover Letters' which is a book written by people who have been in your situation and felt like you do now, and recovered. Its not doctors or therapists...but REAL people with short story letters you can read and will motivate you to believe you will be well again. Thinking of you... Peter

I hope you find some relaxation and peace soon.  I went through a rough spot in June and have now come out of it mostly.  I think it's so much worse when you are in an anxious moment. So much that it's hard to see past it.  But it will pass.  Everything does.  Hang in there, take notes and take the notes to your doctor.  Good luck!

    Hello Gem101,

Don't ever think you have failed, to have overcome this once before you are stronger than you think you are.

as you know from before , sertraline can take a few weeks to regulate into your system. as many of will agree , sertraline can certainly help lift anxiety , maybe not cure it in the long term, as there me be underlying reasons for the anxiety to be kick started once you come off it. And you are not going mad, stay strong , and you will pull through again. Kind Regards.
