Awful headache for ages getting worse?

Hi, Im a 21 year old female. Ive been having headaches for a while but the past couple weeks its been really bad. I should note that when I was 15 I had an MRI and it was revealed that I had some extra water on the brain (hydrocephalus) but after seing a specialist they determined that I have probably had it my whole life and it shouldn't affect me.

Around a year ago de to ongoing nausea and mild headaches I had another MRI and it seemed a slight buildup of fluid, however I am still to see a specialist and I have no idea if it has anything to do with my current issues.

Well anyway the past few weeks my head pain has been getting worse and I feel its dull and achy with a pressure. I also keep getting sharp pains and neck pain.

This has been going on for over a week, with the pain being less severe in the morning and gradually getting worse throughout the day.

I also have the same issues with nausea, however the nausea has been going o much longer.

I haven't had any change in my routines or taking any new medication which would cause this.

    Hi Georgia Alice,

The headaches could be related to the fluid on the brain and nausea, but they could also be seperate.  Do you get other symptoms, like dizziness, weakness or any pins and needles?

Either way this needs more investigation and would go back to your neurologist and explain to him or her, whats been happening.  You may need a spinal tap and further blood tests.

    Good luck and best wishes.

Take care and let us know how you get on

I would not hesitate to get to emergency when these symptoms strike!  They show that all is not right and you need proper assesment.  I get Hemeplegic Migraine and they produce similar symptoms to a stroke, so I have been told to always phone for an ambulance and I am rushed into hospital and checked straight away.

I think you need an MRI with contrast and possiblly a spinal tap, but only the neurologist can say this.  Dont neglect these symptoms!

Good luck Georgia Alice and please let us know how you get on.

      best wishes and take care
