Awful recurring dream?!

Hi, I'm a female, aged 21, and for the last couple months I've been having the same dream almost every night..

I have a little trouble getting to sleep, it normally takes me around an hour to fall asleep. When I do finally get to sleep, I've been having the same dream where I lie awake all night, trying to get to sleep. In the dream I'm in my room, in my bed exactly as I was when I fell asleep, but I lie awake all night struggling to get to sleep. It's so vivid and feels so real, and when I do wake up in the morning I'm absolutely exhausted and sometimes can barely function. It really feels like I HAVE Beenham awake all night. It happens at least 5 times a week, and on the nights that I don't have it I wake up a lot, panicking about having to get up in the morning.

I really don't know whats going on, does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you smile

I do have a partner, and he's getting quite irritated that I keep smacking him in the face when I wake up in a panic... I think he's also pretty worried about me because I walk around like a zombie most of the time.. Is there a specific reason having a partner might make my case different from yours?

Hi Stephanie, it's almost certainly due to anxiety. I'm wondering whether you're the kind of person who was anxious about sleeping even before you started having this dream. (I certainly was at your age.)

Sometimes recurring dreams are the mind's way of trying to tell us something that we don't want to face up to in the daytime. I've had a recurring dream (though not the same as yours) that's come back periodically for the past 35 years. This one is a real nightmare and when it first started I was having it nearly every night. I finally managed to work out what it was that I was trying to tell myself, addressed the problem, and the dream stopped. But it still comes back from time to time, as a warning that I'm at risk of going off track again.

Try having a look at what your unconscious mind might be trying to tell you in your dream.

I used to have quite vivid nightmares. When they stopped I think I was still worried they would come back so I've always been quite anxious about falling asleep.. Thank you for your advice, I will try to figure out what my body is trying to tell me smile

Hi I have viivid dreams and also I dave patterned curtains and see faces/nightmares. Partner your partner should be there for you 24/7 if you are in a partnership. Being there for each other sould matter so much.
