Azathioprine

Hi my consultant has pretty much forced me to start taken azathioprine after 6 months on steroids. I was almost free of symptoms but he said they would come back when the steroids finished. Am I doing the right thing by taken the immune suppressants? This is the 3rd day and I'm already feeling nauseous and tired.

    Hello

Look if you are feeling nauseous, call your hospital team first thing tomorrow. It may be nothing, but not everyone can tolerate immuno suppressants. You will have been given regular appointment s for blood tests, this is to make sure you are not having serious rejection problems. My daughter had them last summer, she was 15 and her system did not like them, she felt sick and dizzy. We took her to hospital for her regular blood test and the nurse stopped them immediately. As I said, it might be nothing but get your blood test done tomorrow. Call them, its very important not to leave it. Tske care. I have UC too, it really is a crappy disease! Ax

Agreed with alison23639 call your doctor or hospital to be safe.

In general everyone reacts different to it. I couldn't handle it I would sleep 12 hours but feel like I had only 2 hours, I could barely walk from my kitchen to my living room without having to lay down to recover and I was someone who could run 5 miles no problem before taking the stuff. So I stopped.

However I know others who have taken it and it worked great for them with no real issues.

So yeah call your doctor or hospital get things checked out and discuss how you will go forward.
