Azithromycin shortage.

Hi! My bronchiectasis is well controlled with azithromycin three times a week. My worry is that if its to be used to treat Coronavirus along with other drugs, there will be a worldwide shortage. Anyone else share my concern? Thanks.

Not sure how many people would agree with me but the way I look at it is, most of us have enough on our plate so why worry about something that may or may not happen, what good will worrying do except make people nervous wrecks.

Luckily for me I am not a worrier but have seen what it can do to people, my friend for example is now in hospital because she worried herself into such a state over the corona virus she ended up making herself severely ill and is now in the place she least wants to be.

She is now worrying about leaving the hospital on Thursday with a load of what ifs I feel really sorry for her but it is getting exhausting having her on the phone day and night wanting reassurance that she hasn't got cancer and that the hospital wouldn't lie to her and tell her it was an infection when it wasn't. She actually gave herself food poisoning because she would leave deliveries out on the doorstep for 72 hours to decontaminate and that included perishables !!!.

I'm on Azithromycin as well. I get a 3 month supply at a time. I'm due for a refill at the end of May. So I'm hoping what there will be a slow down of covid-19 by then.

If not, and/or I can't get it refilled, I'll see how well I do without it or call my lung specialist and see what he says about giving me an alternative antibiotic. I don't lose sleep over it.

I certainly don't want to get sick enough to be hospitalize. Hospitals and healthcare workers are busy enough.

Like most ave said why worry about it but them who ave got coronavirus are on ventilator or breathing machine don't think they will put them on antibiotics think we all have our own health to worry about plus bad enough been on lock down for 12 weeks don't know if you all same as me with bronchiectasis

The government claims they have a lot and it's very cheap to make but I have Bronchiectasis and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Pneumonia and the medication that keeps me alive is Tobermyacin inhalient .

I do breathing treatments every 28 days on and then 28 days off and I even worry about the availability of my medications because of how the whole world is currently so its very understandable that you or anyone else to be worried about the availability of their medications especially if it's your lifeline.

I've been in lock down for 4 weeks and will probably be until there is a vaccine I can take.

Yes, Jean, you are borrowing trouble. When you get down to it, they may try any of the 6 lung meds i use multiple times daily. Panic buying by idiots has wiped out stocks of my OTC mucus thinner. But you know what? i might die in a car wreck before i run out next month. i will continue to check with my vendor. That's all i can do and otherwise, i'm playing with my dog and staring at daily pics of a 12-day old baby none but the parents have been able to meet yet.

Don't drive yourself crazy with the "what ifs."

To thin mucus, buy a salt pipe, around £9, comes with a supply of salt, just use it when you can. It thins mucus in the lungs, really great, i have used mine for years and keeps my lungs clear, great fro anyone with any kind of chest problem, but fro healthy folk too.

It would appear that if you suspect you have corona virus and isolate for 14 days you are okay to go out and about again, so it makes me feel the virus is little more than a long dose of the flu!

So much conflicting information so we have to take care of ourselves and do what we feel is right!
