B12 and vertigo

Hi,

I have been researching tonight about vertigo as my gp recently diagnosed me and prescribed betahistimine tablets.

I can across a you tube video of a lady who suffered with vertigo for 2 years, paid for lots of tests and nothing came back. She went to see a homeopath who did blood tests and her b12 levels were very low. The homeopath gave her a shot of b12 and told her to ring her and let her know how she felt in a few hours. The woman went home and after an hour felt very well and her dizziness had almost gone. She then went on to have a shot of b12 injection every day for a month and he vertigo has gone.

When I've read up about b12 deficiency tonight, more of my symptoms appear to be linked to this rather than vertigo although i am having vertigo symptoms daily.

I have fatigue, flaky itchy scalp, Brain fog, diorehha,

Mouth ulcers, dizzyness, lack of concentration. I could go on.

Anyone else been misdiagnosed with vertigo and it was b12 deficiency?

Oh happy new year! In haven't been able to venture out because I'm having a bad day with fricking vertigo!

Yes B12 can be verynhelpful. I' ve never been diagnosed as low, but to be hi est if you dont absorb it correctly what shows in a blood test isnt v.helpful.

I take a good quality B12 just incase, but tbh i think the shots  are the way to go. I am considering on buying (It's not expensive) the kit and shots and doing it myself!

I have researched B12 as well as I was thought to have signs of it being low but mine was not. Usually if the deficiency gets very low and is low for a long time, it causes neurological issues & etc.. That is normally one of the first things doctors tests for. Have you not been tested?

Your mouth ulcers sound like an autoimmune issue of some sort. I have spent the last year with an array of symptoms such as chronic fatigue, vertigo, numbness/tingling, etc.. and have spent countless hours/days researching different illnesses and symptoms; and speaking to people with autoimmune diseases. The only ones I have found with mouth ulcers are Lupus and Behcets.

Now, I am not a doctor by any means so I hope I'm not embarrassing myself by telling you this information LOL but it's the first thing that came to mind when I read your post.

Might be worth a shot to mention to your doctor about getting some autoimmune disease blood work done and I suggest heading over to the autoimmune disorders group and posting there as well.

I also read and heard only the other day that the Ileum is where B12. Is absorbed, so if not working well or is damaged through illness it may not be metabolising it properly I have  Crohns disease, and although pretty inactive, am thinking maybe the supps  are waste of time,

.i,do know of someone who had bad thyroid, Hashimotos. who reckons the B12 shots helped a lot!!

B12 has been recommended on several forums, but for me it causes extreme anxiety so I had to stop. I know this can be a side effect. Has anyone experienced anxiety to increase and if so did you find and alternative to B 12. I was taking supplements in pill form. My Dr wanted to try an injection but I was afraid of having a panic attack. I'd be curious if anyone has had the injections, if the cause less anxiety than a supplement form.

Usually if someone is od'ing on B12! More than their body can handle it can make you v,jittery.  Not sure about anxiety though.

It was a basic starter amount, but I've heard of others having same reaction. There's actually a B Complex-12 (without the B12) for that reason.

I use to give b12(cyanocobalamin) shots to patients, who were diagnosed with low b12 on their tests. Usually, patients who needed the shot would become impatient, with brain fog, and exasperated with lots of anxiety. When the shot was administered those symptoms would go away.

Did you doctor give you a blood test to see if your b12 was low? Usually, you get your cbc, and rbc with folate checked. This would tell the doctor if you're anemic or needing b12 shots. Perhaps you need to see an endocrinologist, something doesn't sound right if you're reacting to b12 this way.

If I may clarify that vertigo is not a diagnosis but a symptom.  Therefore, you may have experienced a spinning sensation, which is what vertigo can be.  But in this case, the cause of the vertigo was B12 deficiency, which led to a vestibular neuropathy.  However, one can argue that the GP gave you the wrong treatment.

If you opt for the Vit. B12 supplements, choose the sublingual rather than the ones you swallow.  I have been told that they are more effective that way, and not diluted by stomach acid.
