Back ache

Hi, I'm 22 and work in an environment where heavy lifting seems to be a nessecity. Some times awkward lifting is the only option also. Just before Christmas while getting into the shower I found a little rubbery lump that was movable in my lower left back. My back was hurting before this might I add. The lump has went down with some rest and gel etc. Recently I've been having a dull ache in my left hip. Any advice would be great as it's causing anxiety and I'm becoming my own doctor by means of Google!

    Hello Dean

First off, I am not medically qualified so if you have any concerns go and see your GP. Having said that, it could be a cyst caused by an ingrowing hair or possibly by friction with a belt or similar. Googling is dangerous, particularly on American sites, you can quite easily convince yourself that you have a variety of terminal diseases and you'll be lucky to make it through the night smile

The two events may not be connected but as you have a physical job I would seek professional advice now rather than taking time off work later should the ache get worse.

    All the best.

Thanks for your reply. The ache in my hip is just when I sit down an amount of time. It doesn't hurt to walk or any other forms of activity. It's not interfering with my movement etc, it's just irritating more than anything. I have no trouble urinating or there is no tingling sensations.

Leaving the lump to one side sciatica seems a possible cause, that varies from annoying to extremely painful and is quite a common complaint, always go for the easy ones first.

    Regards.

The lump i can't find. It seems to have gone, I've read about sciatica and how lower back pain can travel down into the leg and is relieved with exercise or movement. I just asked on her to find out if anyone else has similar complaints as I rarely get sick or catch a cold so when I feel a pain I am certain that's my card being called.

I'm just seeing your reply now, thank you. Hip pain runs in my family. My dad also gets it from being stationary for too long. I am still going to get an appointment with the doctor to give me a once over. Like I said before its more of an annoyance than anything, I've never had back problems or hip/leg problems in the past. Apart from sports injuries. Self diagnosing myself hasn't helped as I've developed an anxiety about it all.
