Back ache caused by cyst?

I have been getting a back ache on the left side of my back in the middle. Is this something that anyone else has experienced? I have a large cyst which is being removed by open surgery in December but was thinking that maybe my cyst is pushing on something which is causing the constant ache.

Hi Samantha - no doubt about it for me - the cyst can cause strange pains and feelings. I had what felt like a pinched nerve in my left hip for months before I learned I had a 10cm complex cyst. It also can push against your bladder, bowels and other organs - so I was either constipated or had an upset stomach, wee'd frequently, etc. These things are such little jerks!
All the best for your surgery - mine was open surgery as well and I'm 11 days post op. Get yourself lots of firm pillows for your recovery - sleeping on your side with one between your knees and one just under your side near the cut and sometimes even one to hold against your stomach - lifesavers for me! Also don't feel alarmed by the intense gas/wind you'll have after surgery - this was more painful for me than the actual surgery! Try to walk as soon as you can to relieve this which can sometimes radiate to your shoulders and back as well.
All the best! Get that thing outta you!

I had a 22 cm cyst removed on Sept 21st by open surgery. I had lower back pain before as well. I mentioned it to my doctor and she said it could be from pulling a muscle while working out. My surgery went great and I have completely healed. I went back to work after 4 weeks and felt fine, but my back pain is still there. They determined that I also have endometriosis when they removed my cyst and that is the origin of the pain. Hopefully this is not the case for you.
