Hi Volleyball Mom, Any pain this soon after a spinal fusion that is not under control, needs to be addressed with your Dr. immediately...it is their job to ensure your pain is under control, try anything they offer, let THEM decide what meds or ANYTHING else that will best make your pain improve, it avoids any stupid ideas they get about drug seeking....besides I am sure if they said dog poo would help, you would try it....my husband had open spinal discectomy, then a spinal fusion(hip bone extraction)L4,L5,S1....he was in traction & bedridden for months, it took strong pain meds. They may not be able to kill all your pain but, to be bearable is the point, esp. when they expect you to move around. It will reduce stress & improve recovery outcome, including prevent depression, that can be common if pain is left out of control, making your return to normal drag on and on!! Don't be afraid to tell your Dr.... that is what they're there for & they wont know unless you tell them!! Wishing you a speedy, complete recovery!! Best Wishes & come back on here if you want more help!!💒☮🌈🍀♾🎶💞

I had a TLIF of L3 through S1 a number of years ago. Yes...I had post-op pain for a while but it resolved over time. If the meds aren't working, ask the doc to RX a step up. Example: Tramadol up to Vicodin/Norco. You will only need them for a short time. The rehab work is VERY important. I did about 6 weeks @2x/wk. Really helped getting back to normal faster. BIG CAUTION: No bending over and no lifting heavy objects (like a bag or fertilizer). For activities, wear your brace constantly....especially early on. Took me about 6 months to be free of all the consequences...felt totally normal at one year. However, still apply the cautions. I didn't and then needed L2/L3 and finally T12 to L2. You don't want to do that. I am now solid metal from T12 through S1...
