Back on Sertraline the beginning it is worst that I remember

I was on sertraline for 5 years and then i decided it was time to stop taking it. over a month i went from 50 to 25 to 12 to nothing. Well, after 4 months of not taking sertraline I started having panic attacks. My doctor put me back on sertraline and I having bad side effects. I don't remember being like this the first time. I am on day 10 not hungry at all. I have to make shakes to make sure I force something in my stomach. I am like a zombie. I have to take an hour nap in the morning after I take the pill to easy a little bit my sleepiness. Wednesday I got so stomach sick that I have to take something to don't vomit . I don't want to talk with people and I am usually Miss Social. I am at 25mg and the doctor said that it will incrise in to 50 on day 15. I just hope I will adapt to sertraline soon. I really thought because I was on sertraline before that I will not have many side effects but they are here and bad.

My sympathies.  I was on Citalopram following a bereavement 14 years ago and at the time remember it being a miracle drug with little to no side effect.  Had to try taking it again late last year and just couldn't tolerate the start up effects.

Am currently just starting Sertraline (day 7 @ 12.5mg) and even at such a low dose my anxiety has just ramped up through the roof.

So I don't know what it is I'm afraid but you're not alone in finding it hard to tolerate a drug you previously were ok on.

when you took sertraline the first time, what dose were you on?? did you stabilize at that dosage for all that time or did it feel like it wasn't working as well for the 5 years for you??

Clarkio, Thank you! It really feels good to know that I am not alone. I started taking sertraline 5 years ago due to post partum depression. I dont doubt that I had the sleepiness back then but because I had a baby I am sure I didnt realized because i was already tired due to feeding times at night and this time I totally aware that I don't have a reason to be SO tired. I am keeping my fingers cross that next week will be better for you and me.

Gingemac1977 I was on 50mg of sertraline doing great for five years. But I gain weight with the pill and I wasn't able to lose the pounds at all. That's why I decide I was in a good place and ready to have a life with out sertraline and I was ok for 4 months and then I started having panick attacks and here I am back on it. The weird thing is that this time I cannot eat. I am not hungry at all!

Day 12 was when the worst of the side effects wore off, touching wood as i say that as i am only on day 15 :D . Had some horrific stomach aches but they went around day 10 as well. My moods gone back to how I felt just before I started taking them ( pretty low :P ), although my anxiety seems slightly worse which isn't nice. Waiting to see any positives sad

2frankyjez you are right Day 11 my stomach is getting a little bit better. I know is until week 4 when you really start to feel better. It is hard when I  still need to continue with my regular life and when people around me don't know why I look like I am sleepy all day long. I hope I start to get my regular appetite back soon.

Day 10 for me and things feel like they're calming down slightly.  Still not sleeping and anxiety still up but not as much as before.  Of course my stupid mind is now worrying about the next increase in dose.

Glad you are feeling a bit better as well Gorda, I always find my appetite goes when anxious so hopefully this will also improve for you soon.
