think your right probably to do with the limping, had previous surgery to toe on same leg and was limping around in a cam boot for 9 weeks then this on top been on crutches and walking stick for nearly 6 mths all told didnt think about that.

I think we find that the original pain has masked other pains and ailments, so when the OA pain is suddenly gone, we find those underlying pains coming through.  As you say, caused by walking badly.  I now have a pain in my right shoulder (i had a left THR), from walking with one stick and the extra pressure that has put on my arm and shoulder in supporting me when walking.

I think 'adjustment' has a lot to do with the back pain experienced after the op. I imagine that the whole body is in a slightly different position and we are getting used to a different way of moving.

I guess too I am speaking for at least 60% of us who have this op because we have arthritis. I can't speak for anyone else but will say that I have arthritis in other joints as well and they all moaned after I had my hips done!

Hi Lyn I to get lower back pain especially after sitting for long periods and I can't really stand for any length of time due to back pain - just thought it was a side effect of the op that hopefully will go soon! X

You are not alone. I also have that issue. Apparently it is caused by extra stress on the back as it overcompensates for the weaker leg muscles and will go away as the leg becomes stronger.

As a preop hippie i have had disc probs for many years and have been warned by surgeon that if do have thr that after 4-6 weeks would have increased back pain due to how body has been pushed and pulled. And use of crutches walking different etc xx

Sadly it's true I've had back & neck surgery and knee replacement and now hip replacement.

My upper back isn't too happy, not horrific but tight, spasms, needs Physio or massage. Defo because our whole movement changes and also the strain one side copes with from compensating the other.

My only advice to you, and I beg you to take it, do NOT let the physios push u to do more than the WHOLE of you can cope with or do exercises that will aggravate your other symptoms!!!!!!

I did and have spent 9 weeks out of 10 stuck in my house unable to walk due to injuring my knee because the physios/hydro didn't listen to taking me as a whole, so my recovery is so behind!!!!!! My hip btw is great as far as I can tell and ironically taking all the strain whilst my knee recovers!

      Xx

Gaby that is awful - I didn't know your situation was caused by a physio. I had a similar run in with mine. She has really hurt my back, both hips and my confidence into the bargain. Even today I am struggling so much. I have been so well since my op but just haven't recovered from PT this week. I feel like it has set me back weeks.

I do have arthritis in my spine and shoulders and all of it is burning and flaring now. But it was all okay before the PT. Feeling so sad with it all, My hip is fine now thankfully!

No one person actually did anything hands on but it's what I let them push me to do , so the blame is at my door for allowing it. When you're just PO and emotional you don't think clearly.

Does anyone end up in agony in their lower back from just sitting straight for long periods of time. I find i need to put my feet up but thats difficult to do on buses or in maths class.
