Hope you are feeling a bit better today.I would make another app with you gp.looks like you medication is no helping,gp can send you for xray to check or scan.you could ask to see specialist or pain clinic.

From experience I had to keep going to gp to get my self sorted.I have had neck shoulder pain and been to have pain block injections,I in the past have tried acupuncture but without any help.

amitriptoline tablets help with nerve pain,I found paracetamol and codine more helpful than anything else.

I also have Lower back pain and been under the care of the pain clinic for sometime.they are really helpful,.after years of pain 2 opps I now have a nerve stimulator fitted in my back that really helps with pain.

Have you thought about using a tens machine, some companies will lend you one or to buy start about £30.

I got on so well with the tens machine that's why I had a nerve stimulator fitted in my back.

I have always found having a drink of ginger cordial diluted with hot water comforting especially when taking tablets an old fashioned idea but it works.

Also a heat pad or hot water bottle helps.or having a bath before going to bed.

You really need to find out the cause of your problem it could bee a trapped nerve like mine was,

Hope I have helped a little ...holly

Many in here are in pain I see. I doubt any two have exactly the same pain but when we see a medical healer we all get treated the same. I told one MD we know  more about the back side of the moon than we know about the back side of a human.  Pills, exercises, hanging from the ceiling equipment, shots,  going into a pain clinic for one month to see if that will help me. I can barely get up from a chair, cannot walk a mile, use two canes as is. My bones are " rusting " away. I am not able to keep up with my wife in walking at all, we are in our early 70's. I was in shape for years but went to hell body wise when sat at a desk for 20 years. good luck.
