Back pain

Hi everyone
9 weeks post op. Had the knee pain. Had the groin pain. Now the back pain. This op is great. Hip pain disappears straight away. Then comes every other pain imaginable on this roller coaster journey of recovery.
Need a hot shower and physio exercises to get me going in the morning. Today drove to supermarket did the week shop and drove home. A challenge but one of the small victories on the road to recovery lol any advice from fellow sufferers will be greatfully received.

Keep going ...your doing all the right things ...it does get easier. Via this forum many people reminded me that you have had a major operation and it takes time to get over and the healing inside.
Well done and enjoy pain-free shopping!! 🍸

HI Sandra remember that your muscles are regrowing and re working after poor excersise from being unused for the long period of degeneration ...
Years in my case, I was fine at 50 then 4 years of pain...
Now at 56 I am reworked, and getting stronger again, it has taken time.....

Awww thank you Ian. I have always been sooo active. My hip was damaged in an accident with a washing machine 😂😂don't ask. Took me 2 years to get this op and I'm ever so grateful to my surgeon.
When you watch the op it is so brutal so not surprising the recovery takes so long. It's just so good to chat with others on this site. Xx

if you have advice for me been doing pretty
well op leg approx 1 inch longer after op ,but
very sore when I first stand up after sitting it
gets easier when I get into my stride and all
that pre op pain as gone ,I walk lots or try to

wonder if it's coming from hip or
knee,am I expecting to much is this just part
of healing, have xray few weeks ago and
came back alls fine, advice would be great.xx

Yes Anna mine was nearly an inch longer on the first one too and I did not even notice it untill I was told,
You are probably going to have the other side done as well, and they will address the length discrepancy then,
Otherwise it will just settle in once the joint has been bedded in.
I had my second operation just 9 weeks after my first, had to as could not walk really at all, so the two operations really did give my life back to me ......
I was very active in my thirties and fourties thought I was indestructable.... and never gave Hips wearing out any thought at all, but no self recriminations, here, a few heart felt moments for me though I assure you.... but facing it a lot better now...so...yes there are Hip Pains and Groin Pains, Odd Placed Pains... that come and go and now even Cold Weather Pains...I continue to use a 50mg Tramadol now and then for the different associated pains, and I have had the Steriod Injection to help regrowth too, and it has helped strengthen my left, once stronger side, but I will never be the person that I once was, and I accept that, well 56 now and really have to...
It is the excersise that helps, the standing leg lifts and side lifts, the things that wore out my hips, over years with weights on my legs, running and kicking and Karateing my way towards a double hip replacement in the first place... How very Odd life can be....
Keep in touch with your surgeon for as long as you can and try to extend the time that you are in his care, I am going every six months now and do not want to be signed off from his attention just yet.
Hope that helps, and puts a Smile On Your Dial.... Ian +++

My theory goes like this .....
You have been in pain with OA for a while, and that pain masks any other pains you might have.
You are now trying to walk correctly again, and you are not used to it - and you have also been walking incorrectly due to the pain, which will also have put your back under strain which won't help.

Thanks for this Graham. Last week it was groin pain this week its back pain. You are probably dead right. Everything will be out of alignment due to 2 years of hip pain and managing this.
It sort of makes me laugh as I wonder where will the next pain come from ?? I'm trying to just do a little more each day. Also could be that I have just started driving again and using muscles that have been out of commission for 9 weeks.
This site is a God send. There is always someone to listen. 🎈🙃x

Hi Hazel
You have made me laugh. Like me I wake up stiff as a board. Like I need some WD40 lol. Groin pain is awful. A tip. Stop doing any lifting leg exercises or slides as apparently the muscle is needing to heel. Advice from someone on this site. Doing the exercises is not helpful to healing so I stopped them for a couple of weeks and it's certainly getting better.
Back pain has been chronic ! I have found that a hot shower, hot water bottle and muscle rubs help. Also move. Do the other exercises and walk. That's after the WD40 😂😂😂😂
It's a great op this as hip pain gone straight away. They forget to tell you that each day something else will hurt !
Great to hear from you. No doubt it will all settle down in time. Take care and keep in touch. Xxxx

Hi Hazel.
Back pain does not seem too bad today. Fingers crossed that this is abating. 🙏
Same here I haven't been out walking for days as weather here in North East England is awful as well.
When I saw consultant last week he said there is a big muscle in groin area that gets damaged by the op and takes time to adjust to prosthesis. So I have stopped legs raises and slides.
Dying to get back to work so emailed boss as I have been given the go ahead to return. Thought as I am an independent practitioner that maybe there would be no work immediately. Lol. Loads and loads 👍😃😂hopefully be able to pick up a couple of assessments this week.
Onwards and upwards. Wonder where the pain will be next 😂Xx
