back pain and loss of balance

after half an hour of walking, some of it steep inclines, my back suddenly goes very weak and I start to fall forward and lose my balance, the pain is really bad but after a half hour sit down it's not so bad until I get up and walk and I lose my balance again, I can't walk without a stick, while standing at the bathroom sink having a wash and shave I have to sit down to dry my self because the pain is that bad. Also after sitting in my arm chair for an hour or so and I get up I get a burning feeling in my back , it feels like it's on fire, can any one relate to these back problems and did you find out what the cause was, I am a pensioner. Would really appreciate any kind of help and advice, thank you, James16105

It sounds to me like nerve issues, but I'm no doctor, I'm just making an educated guess. You should get to the crux of the problem so you can solve it.

You don't say what medical examinations or treatments you have had.

I haven't experienced your exact symptoms, so my experience wouldn't relate to your condition. But I do know what nerve related conditions feel like. Plus, I've done a lot of reading on the subject. Like I said, I was just making an educated guess.

Dear James,
Please call your GP for an appointment so he can send you to a back specialist.

Hi erela, it's now 3 weeks since my xrays on my back and I still have not received any info from the hospital so I have to assume they have not found anything serious, I am now beginning to think it is a degenerate problem, (I am 79) , I do do back exercises and it does help some what but I think I'll always have this problem, just another age thing, getting old is so cruel. thanks Erela, James.

Hi erela, the scans from the hospital did not reveal anything wrong so after a few weeks with the pain getting worse and also my balance problem my doctor arranged for an exray which came back as normal so he has arranged for me to have a bone scan, I am waiting to hear from the hospital . I'm a bit scared of what they might find. will let you know of the outcome , James
