Back Pain and sciatica

I've had problems with my neck and back since I was a child, but recently i've been having more problems with my back, i've had about 3 or 4 episodes of lower back pain but this time I have been diagnosed with lower back pain and sciatica, the doctor put me on codeine, but they didn't ease the pain and now nefopam which are basically doing the same, i've also been seeing a physio for the last 3 weeks, when he had a look he said my spine was twisted/curved and my right hip was lower then my left so I was walking lopsided, I feel like I'm going in circles and feeling fed up and in constant pain,

When I was born I was put in cast from above my hips to my toes as my hips/pelvis and legs weren't formed properly, I was in cast till I was about 2 or 3 years old,

I then had an accident as a child and hurt my neck n back

Could the problems be because of that?

Please help as at my wits end and feel like I'm not been taken seriously.......

First of all, what type of doctors have you seen lately? You to set a back specialist and he needs to refer you got physical therapy and possibly an epidural injection to bring down the inflammation. It's very hard for someone on our end to help you not knowing what is going on. It sounds like you are have a problem due to no good balance and putting too much pressure on the spine.. Sorry to hear of such a problem for you..

I've seen my gp and I asked the gp about having the epidural injection and he won't let me have it he said its for patients who has a chose of that or surgery,

He keeps only offering me painkillers after painkillers so he gave me the nefopam.

I've been in serious pain like this for the last 2 months and I'm not getting anywhere, he said he could refer me to another physio on the NHS cause I'm going private,

      What's physical Therapy?

Actually what said I do have a medical condition with my balance and have for the last 7 years and on medication for it.

Physical therapy is when a trained medical professional help stretch your and retrains you how to use your back muscles again. They also check the length of your legs and work with you. Pain meds is all that is, for pain. You are not going to get better... Try heating packs or ice packs to help the inflammation. I use motrin to help the inflammation for my back. You need to see a back specialist and have them send you for therapy. What country do you live in? I feel very bad for you...

I can identify with your problems, because I developed many of the same.  I am a senior citizen and went to an orthopedist in severe pain. Not sciatica--I had that about 30 years ago and a subsequent laminectomy--but my spine was also curved and twisted.  The orthopedist offered me a shot or an operation.  Sounded to me like having the shot would be putting off the inevitable, so at 77 years I went for the operation.  Have two long titanium rods in my back and my range of motion is quite limited, but I can work with it. Went through extended physical therapy and now am in continued physical therapy for  problems with a rotator cuff following the surgery and learning how to use the back brace. One leg is shorter than the other by about an inch, and my pelvis is out of alignment, but again I can stand and walk.  By all means see a specialist, get a second opinion if you need to,  Get a good diagnosis and plan of care, then follow your gut and pray!  Good luck.  One day at a time.....

Well I all I can say is things with lower back pain and sciatica on my right hand side went from back to worse, I had a bath on wednesday morning (21/10) and I went to stand up in the bath to put the shower on and I slipped I bashed my right hip of the side of the bath, it really hurt when I did it, I took some codeine and thought I can still walk, I'll be ok, so continued to get ready to go and see my sis and my newly born premature nephew, born 8 weeks early, I walked from home one side of town to the other side of town to where the hospital is located and then back again, yes I was in discomfort all ready cause of my lower back pain and sciatica but I never imagined how things could change over the evening and to early hours of the morning, I began to feel really bad pain in my lower back which gradually got worse, so I went to have a hot bath thinking it will ease it and I was wrong so it was bed time, I couldn't lay on my back or either my left or right side, so I layed on my stomach, the pain got worse and I was in tears, so I rang the NHS direct just for a bit of advice, not thinking I'd have to go to hospital, I explained what happened and they got an ambulance out to me, I lost the use of my right leg and therefore can't walk

They said I was lucky not to brake my right hip in the fall, They said I had aggrieved the sciatica, while in hospital they gave me diclofenic, Diazapan and two substitutes of morphine, one a drip going in to my arm the other I take orally, they gave me the substitute of morphine cause i can't have morphine cause I have a bad reaction to it and I become really poorly,

They eventually let me come home baring in mind I still can't walk and still have the same problem in my theigh and my calf and have the same in my right foot, when I need to go to the loo, I have to crawl as I cant walk, I'm scared will I ever get the feeling back in my right side so I can walk again normal.

All this feels like my past childhood injury, i'll explain when I was a young child, I was climbing the climbing frame in the pe hall, I was going over the top, missed placed my footing and fell, I got up thinking I was ok, the next time I came round I was in hospital, I was told I would never walk again and so went on to prove everyone wrong which I did, I got stronger and walked again and now with what's happened I feel like I'm going to go back there again, this time things are different in my right leg and foot......

On wednesday 4th of November my doctor came out to see me and put a referral in for me to have an x-ray on Thursday 5th, I had my x ray and I asked for my results needing to know if there was anything going on, so the radiographer asked a consultsnt/doctor to have a look and they pulled me to one side and SaI'd I have am chip in my right pelvis, I rangyou doctor to tell him my results and my doctor said he's got my results back and he said they are clear, but now I'm really unsure what to think cause a previous time I went to see a consultant at the hospital for a different medical reason and I was told that I have a problem with my liver and the results were sent to my gp and the gp also told me then that my results for my liver came back clear

I'm now wondering what and who to believe, as this is the second time I have been told two different things

Please help I need some advice
