Back pain caused by fibroids?

Posted , 2 users are following.

i had a myomectomy in january. a 13 cm fibroid was removed. i had previously had back pain and thought the fibroid was to blame. my back pain (and hip/leg) pain has gotten much worse and after a ct, mri, four sets of xrays, physical therapy and injections, my spine doc ordered a pelvic mri. the results show a 5cm fibroid and several others. has anyone else had back pain ( terrible, excruiating at times) as a result of a fibroid?

    hi

has the doctor said the fibroid has grown since you operation or was missed originally? It must be hugely frustrating to discover this after having the op 😦

I had 19cm and 11cm fibroids removed by myomectomy last summer. I suffered for years with back pain I put down to a gardening strain, sitting at a desk and putting on weight but now think it was due to the fibroids... which makes sense as they were equivalent of a 5 month pregnancy!

I've still had back pain post op, I think for the first 6-9 months this was related to healing as the core muscles needed to build back up in strength. my op was last June and by April the back pain was so bad I was in tears and back at the doctors. Sent for MRI of lower back which just showed some wear on the lower part of my spine and I really didnt get any helpful advice from the Dr apart from take pain killers. By the time I got the results I was having less frequent bouts of pain and so I havent sought any further tests.

My relief has come from stopping running, increasing yoga, starting pilates and McTimony style chiropractry. I still get back ache every now and then, but havent been stuck in bed or on strong painkillers / in tears since the first half of the year.

So, I think Yes Fibroids can and do cause back pain, but also your body takes a while to fully heal from the op (probably 12 months in reality). Also, I highly recommend Pilates and a McTimoney Chiropractor as ways to ease your pain rather than just using pain killers. I guess you are also considering options to treat your new fibroid which must be a bit disappointing after already going through an operation and recovery.

I wish you luck and hope you are getting the support you need! x

i have had back pain for over a year and thought the removal of the first one would do it . she didnt remove second one for fear it might cause a need to remove the entire uterus due to bleeding. the mri shows it hasnt really grown over the past 11 months, but may be the cause of the pain. i too have been in tears many times due to back pain and radiating leg and hip pain
